Minutes - 05/14/1998 - Autumn Festival CommitteeETHNIC FEST MEETING MINUTES • OF MAY 14TH,1998 OAK BROOK BATH AND TENNIS CLUB Meeting called to order at 7:15 p.m. Roll call- Denise Tennison, Marc1 Hanzhk, Sherry Mazda, Doreen Barrett, John Craig, Adam Butler, Michelle Butler, Al Savmo, Ralph Maxson, Carol Link, Bonnie Sartore. Approval of Minutes of April 23rd, 1998. Approved by Adam Butler, seconded by Ralph Maxson. A report was given by Doreen Barrett regarding the mini soccer event. After having a discussion with the local high school coach, it was determined that it would not be possible for us to conduct even a miu tournament with the high school teams as it is an IHSA violation for team members to participate in tournaments of any type during their season. As a result several alternate suggestions evolved as ideas that may attract and appeal to our teen groups. The first idea is to contact the professional athletes including Frank Thomas and Chris Chehos, who both live in Oak Brook to see if they would be willing to come to the event and glad -hand for an hour or two. The second idea is to contact the Olympians (Gold Medal Winners) from the high schools serving our areas, including Nelson Diebel, the Olympic swimmer from Oak Brook, and Tammy Granato, the Gold Medal winning hockey player, and see if they can attend the event as honored guests. Since the Olympics are International games, they fit the format of Ethnic Fest to a tee. A follow up report will be provided through Bonnie at the next meeting. • Proposed menus and schematic plans for the Preview Party and the Sunday event were presented and approved by the Committee. The letterhead for this years event has been printed and will be available for distribution at the next meeting. The Entertainment Committee reported that it had met and determined that this years format would consist of one continuous show on main stage, rather than three separate events. This should make it much easier for the performers to only have to go through their routine one time and organizationally will be easier for the MC's etc.. Most of the entertainment groups from last year have been asked to return with a couple of exceptions, being the larger bands. The remaining spots in the entertainment program we hope to have filled with a representative group from each of our Oak Brook - serving high schools as part of the entertainment. Possibly even a competition between them. Nuha Dabbouseh will provide information on Hinsdale Centrals participation at the next meeting and Bonnie and the Entertainment Committee will follow up with the other area high schools depending on Nuha's report. Several vendor and entertainment inquiries were distributed to members of the Committee to investigate and provide follow up for the next meeting. Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Approved • Date
