Minutes - 06/08/2000 - Autumn Festival CommitteeAUTUMN FESTIVAL Committee
Minutes of June 2000
1. MEETING CALL: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Mariette Adrian, Doreen Barrett, Adam Butler, Nuha Dabbouseh,
Carolyn Link, Jan Lundquist, Ralph Maxson, (late), Nelly Naguib, Joan Philip, Bonnie Sartore
ABSENT: Joyce Antoniolli, Michelle Butler, Connie Craig, Barb Nasharr„ Tom Truedson
ALSO PRESENT: Linda Lojewski
3. MINUTES from the meeting of May 10 were approved with correction.
4. PREVIEW PARTY menu was finalized. The Elmhurst College Jazz Band will again perform. Other
possibilities included the roving Alpiners and/or Tony Ingrisano at the keyboard during dinner. Bonnie
will call Mr. Ingrisano about playing for the Preview Party and also coordinating the groups on the
entertainment stage
5. THE COMMITTEE REVIEWED the schedule from the 1999 Autumn Fest item by item and
commented on each. It was decided to ask the Fire & Police Departments to participate again, but no
other "civic groups" would be asked. Bonnie suggested we do a Tribute to Marlo since the dog is
scheduled for retirement and he is a favorite of many of Oak Brook's residents. A couple of the
village's police personnel had participated in a SWAT drill at the river houses and Bonnie thought
maybe a display and/or representation of that group's activities would be a nice addition. She will
contact Sgt. Stadwiser about the possibility. Bonnie will also contact Chief Jarvis about having not only
Freddie the Fire Truck but also the "big engine" available for viewing.
6. KARAOKE was a huge success. Nelly will again coordinate the girls to run the attraction. Equipment
will have to be rented this year, however, as Nelly's source from last year is no longer available.
7. THE CHICAGO WOLVES have contacted Bonnie about having their mascot available to walk
through the grounds and talk to people, handing out promotional items. The committee liked the idea of
having "strolling" type attractions and will have the "wolf' provided it does not present conflict with
Village policies. Bonnie will clarify village policy and contact the Wolves.
8. OTHER ATTRACTION SUGGESTIONS included an appearance by the Clydesdale horses. Bonnie
said she will ask Polo Director Karen Martino to follow up on this possibility.
9. THE RAFFLE was discussed at length. It will not be held as the last event this year. The committee
agreed that there needed to be more signage and information available. A suggestion was made to have
someone, possibly high schoolers, walk around and sell tickets throughout the day. Mailing of raffle
rickets was discussed, but it is against Federal regulations to do so, even though many organizations use
this method. Jan noted that she had a commitment from Costco to give some memberships for the
raffle. Joan suggested we do a solicitation mailing for raffle gifts along with a "reminder" type of flyer
for people to mark the date on their calendars. The July meeting will be used as workshop to stuff
envelopes. Joan will approach the Civic Association for use of their mailing labels.
10. CRAFTERS Jan has contacted the Hinsdale Community House for a list of their craft vendors, but it is
not available. She will also contact Pheasant Run about sharing their list with us as they have a big craft
show as well. The crafters reservation form that was used last year was reviewed and will be used again
with one or two slight changes.
11. NEXT MEETING: July 13, 2000.
12. ADJOURNMENT: 8:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Lojewski
