Minutes from the meeting of June 12, 1997
Ethnic Fest Committee
Oak Brook Bath & Tennis Club
Meeting was called to order at 7 :15 p.m.

Bonnie reported that Ralph Maxson will ask the Elmhurst College Jazz Band to perform at the
Saturday night preview party and also on Sunday. Jimmy's Bavarian Band will stroll around
• outside on Saturday and will be asked to perform on Sunday
John Spot will be asked to donate portalet services, sponsors can be sold, if desired
Bonnie said 4th of July fliers will be sent to residents Also, a polo benefit will be held on June
29 for the Burn Camp for Children, sponsored by the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance OBBT
swimmers will get sponsors for swimming laps to donate to the Burn Camp Our firemen will be
involved in the event
The Civic Association will promote Ethnic Fest in the August newsletter, and it will be in the
village newsletter, also Bonnie will meet with the hosts to discuss ticket distribution, promotion,
etc She will host two open houses at the Sports Core Administration Office for committee
members to stop by for information, forms, etc The dates are Wednesday, June 29, from 4 to 9
p. m. and Thursday, July 17, from 4 to 9 p m
Bonnie showed a calendar produced by a Health Care Service Organization that does a
"Diversity Calendar " She will check into selling it at Ethnic Fest.
An art contest for children was discussed, and it was deeded it should be done through the park
district or library instead of the schools, so everyone would be involved. We may have a
photography contest for adults, and Nuha suggested a poetry contest for children Bonnie will
attend festivals, including Elm Fest, Heritage Fest (Downers Grove), etc to see how they are run
She will take some of our applications to give to their vendors

Graue Mill will do a display this year

Al Savino asked if we have a not - for - profit category where groups can come in at a reduced
rate The committee will decide, or they can set up the Clubhouse for expenses only (no fee).
Adam suggested getting OBACI to promote the Fest Nuha said there are many women
interested in displaying arts and crafts this year.
The meeting was adjourned at 8 15 p m The next meeting will be at 7 p.m Thursday, July 10, at
the Clubhouse
