Minutes of the July 11 meeting were approved.
Bonnie said she attended a staff meeting at Village Tuesday and passed out copies
of ad forms to the employees and asked for recommendations on who to send them
to. Joan Philip said the subdivisions are submitting histories to Denise Tennison.
Joan also said the recipe boxes have been ordered and recipes are being printed.
Ads are still needed, as well as a letter from John O'Brien, president of the park
board, and Michael Butler, which Adam was asked to get.
Bonnie gave an entertainment report on her meeting today, with a list of all the
performers. She said the tent will be quite large and will start flush with the Bath &
Tennis Club. Seating will be on the hill. Master of ceremony duties will be split
between a Spanish broadcaster and Dennis Longstein from the school district.
Bonnie also gave a report on the merchants and restaurants. She said we have
commitments from a Jamaican restaurant, Messina's, Tommy R's, York Tavern,
Basal Thai, China Terrace, a Mexican tacomobile, and others. Merchants include
Coldwell Banker, Met Life, the Oak Brook Library Assn., Irish Treasure Trove, a
Gaelic shop, an ethnic doll lady, etc. It was decided to put a large tent in the center
of the OBBT parking lot with tables and chairs, and to get bakeries and a coffee
vendor. Al Savino suggested giving them the space because they are doing a service
to us.
Bonnie said there will be three shows, and a program of the shows that will be on
10
the main stage: as well as strolling performers. The Jesse White Tumblers will
perform: there will be ethnic games for children; and soccer, martial arts and polo
•
demonstrations.
Bonnie said a tent will be put up poolside for volunteers. Parking for volunteers and
entertainers will be on the show field. In case of inclement weather, Ray Rocky has
arranged with the Drake Plaza and McDonald's for parking.
Bonnie has four or five people who will put up cultural exhibits, and Michael Butler
will do a historical exhibit. John Lindquist suggested doing a mailing two weeks in
advance to promote the event.
Marge will work with Susan Santefort on the cover photo for The Doings - it will
feature children in ethnic costume.
Bonnie said we are at the point where we can ask people for help. She will make a
list of needs for people to do in shifts. Different groups of volunteers will work
during each performance. She can do last - minute T -shirts for volunteers, and John
said he could probably do aprons for Pioneers. Bonnie will find a volunteer to
underwrite shopping bags, possible JB Realty (Oakbrook Center). Waste
• Management will donate garbage containers. Joan asked about selling signage on
portable toilets.
Bonnie said a ``needs list" will be ready for the next meeting. Also, flagpoles have
been arranged, and Julie is going to come out and give us a map of where we can
dig in the driveway. We will probably arrange the flags alphabetically, with the
United States, county, etc., flags in the center.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. The next meetings are scheduled for September
5 and 19.
