PRESIDENT BUSHY stopped by the meeting to thank the members of the comnuttee for their hard
work and input in making this year's event so successful. Karen also commented on what the event has
evolved into from its initial concept. She noted she had received comphments from members of the
community and also some suggestions for the upcoming year, including the possibility of having a
miniature train and/or mum golf course as attractions.
4. 1VMU S from the meeting of September 9, 1999 were approved as written.
5. THIS EVALUATION MEETING was an informal dinner and discussion The committee agreed that
the tent configuration this year was excellent and that the Elmhurst College Jazz Band was outstanding.
The committee also felt the postcard mailed to residents the week of the event served as a great reminder
and encouraged participation. This will be done again next year. The Cake Walk was a HUGE success
and next year will be relocated to a larger area. The karaoke area concession was another "lit" to be
repeated next year. The committee reviewed and discussed some comments that had been received and
distdbuted.
6. PRESS COVERAGE was discussed. It was originally the committee's plan to run a "Thank you ad
in the Doings after the event. However, the Doings did very little to cover the event before hand and did
nothing about the event itself. A general displeasure of the current Doings Newspaper was discussed
and the idea of a "thank you" was dismissed. The committee felt that if it was run it should be in the
Press Publications as they did a good job of coverage.
7. THE FOLLOWING SUGGESTONS were made in the course of the evening — no action was taken
(A) Solicit cakes from area bakers for the Cake Walk.. They would be allowed to attach a business card
for advertising; (B) Increase the price of the Saturday dinner; (C) Use a punch card instead of tickets for
the attractions; (D) Post more signage, includmg schedules in several locations on the property, (E)
Solicit plastic bags for carrying purchases and prizes; (F) Change the hours from 1:00 — 6.00; (G)
Charge for more of the attractions; (H) Keep the focus on family activities rather than on food tasting, (1)
Have more "child friendly" food available such as hot dogs and/or pizza; (J) Put wine tasting booth next
to cheese vendor; (K) Bingo; (L) Sell raffle tickets earlier next year; (Ni) Include raffle tickets with the
price of a dinner ticket.
8. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Bonnie stated that Susan Santefort will again do the entertainment stage for
2000. The 2000 Autumn Festival will be held on the last weekend in September to allow the schools an
extra week to give their groups more time to practice.
