Minutes - 11/13/2003 - Autumn Festival CommitteeAUTUMN FESTIVAL Committee
Minutes of November 13, 2003
MEETING CALL: 7:20 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Joyce Antoniolli, Connie Craig, John Craig, Ralph Maxson, Harry Peters, RonDa
Peters, Joan Philip, Asif Yusuf, Bonnie Sartore, Mary Meranda ABSENT: Mariette Adrian, Rose Boersma, Nuha
Dabbouseh, Carolyn Link, Jan Lundquist, Nelly Naguib, Barb Nasharr, Linda Lojewski.
3. The first item of discussion: Possibly lowering the Autumn Festival budget to $16,000.00. Talk to Private
Bank to see if they would raise their donation to $3,500.00.
Preview Party: It was thought that the Preview Party's attendance was lower this year due the date being
moved forward.
5. Everyone was extremely happy with the way the weather turned out for Autumn Fest.
6. Asif brought up a valid concern regarding the duplication of the face painters. We had one that we hired for
entertainment and there was a vendor who paid for a booth. After the vendor sent payment for the booth, it
was attempted to cancel the face painter but was told because the lateness of the cancellation we would have to
pay for it anyway. It was decided to have both and see how it turns out. It was also noticed that there were
two signs at the petting zoo that showed different prices for admission and for feed. The admission to the
petting zoo for Autumn Fest is free. This is something we will need to keep an eye on for next year.
7. Pumpkin Painting: There is concern that we ran out of pumpkins this year. It was noticed that there were
older kids who had picked up pumpkins early then came back later in the day to paint them. It was discussed
to possibly set an age limit of children 10 and under for the pumpkin painting.
Bonnie expressed her gratitude for the work that the committee has put into our Autumn Festival. Bonnie said
that since 1996 she has worked with the original 3 -part committee consisting of the Park District, School
District 53 and the Village up to the current committee today and she wanted to express on behalf of the
Village of Oak Brook, what a wonderful contribution this completely diverse group of residents has made to
continue the tradition of what the Oak Brook Sports Core was intended to provide to the community. She
stated that she wished that more people who lived here had had the opportunity to see a truly reflective
committee of residents with widely varying opinions could produce when they all work together.
As the discussion of the Autumn Festival budget prospects for `2004' continued, Trustees Craig and Yusuf
stated their support for the continuation of all community events. Bonnie mentioned the commitment to
`marry' Oak Brook Day to the Park District, an idea brought up by Park District Commissioner Harry Peters.
Trustee Craig asked Bonnie to tell the Committee about the plans for an outdoor concert venue proposal on
the Sports Core. The Committee had many questions which Bonnie and Trustee Craig tried to answer.
Bonnie explained that the exploration of these concerts was actually a program objective published by the
Village Board for `2003'. Trustee Craig encouraged Community participation in the `2004' Budget process
with the concurrence of Trustee Yusuf. Trustee Yusuf told the Committee members that the `2004' Budget
Workshop was scheduled for Monday, November 24«' and that they were welcome to be there.
