Annual report. 1
Oak Brook Fire Department
Training Division
The year 1970 saw a large increase in the total number of
drills and drill manhours spent in training programs. A
monthly training program was started with assigned drills.
A written schedule was placed on the bulletin board at the
start of each month. The drills were so planned so that the
on duty platoon would have a organized drill for at least one
hour each day that they were on duty. All of the P.O.C. mer.
met every Wednesday evening and trained with the on duty pla-
toon for two hourr. Special drills were conducted on Tuesday
afternoons Zor the Brothers from the Seminary.
During the course of this years training program all of the
following items were covered in the training program. Water
as used in Fire Fighting, Standpipe & Hose systems, Sprinkler
equipment, Automatic Fire Alarms. Fire Pumps & Hose Lays, Fire
Hose, Tools & Equipment, Rope & the Fire Service, Ladders, GaS
Masks, Size -Up, Forcible Entry, Rescue, Fire Extinguishment,
Exposures & Confinement, Ventilation, Salvages Care of Appara-
tus, Driver Training, Fire Detection & Arson investigation, A
complete study of all street and building locations. A complete
study of the water distribution system in the Village plus many
other related matters.
With the completion of the drafting pit we were able to drill
more effectively on pump operations and water movement. During
the year firemen were sent to different fire schools thru• -cut
the country to further their education. Wth the completio : of
the basic training courses this year we should be able to con-
tinue our training on these basic items plus train on the aaore
advanced areas of fire fighting training procedures.
Following is a breakdown of this years training program as done
each month.

Fire Prevention Bureau AMU&I Report, 1990
The year 1970 showed a large increase in t3te total number
of inspections made and in all other fire pmwent:ion activ-
ities, About 95 of all of inspectable occupancies have been
inspected for the first annual. inspection. The buildings Ub-
der construction have been inspected weekly to check compli-
ance with the code while under construction.
There was an increase in the number of hours spent in train-
ing and organizing private fire brigades in industry, safety
committees in commercial occupancies and self- a ;Pection pro -
cedures in places of assembly and gather +occupancies.
The pre -plan run cards have just about been completed, wring
our second inspection hour of all occupancies we shall continue
the pre -plan run card system by drawing a sketch of each occup-
ancy on the back of the run card. When these cards are completed
they will be placed on the apparatus, This will be of valuable
assistance to the responding fire companies on the fire ground.
The fire prevention bureau has strived to bring back informa-
tion to the meta on duty in the station. When a inspection is
made or a new building is occupied we draw a► sketch on the black-
board and list all of the pertinent information pertaining to
the building and its contents*
on the following pages of this annual report you will find a
detailed breakdown of this years fire inspections and fire pre-
vention activities,
In the forth coming year we shall continue cur progress. This
means an increase in inspections on all occupancies and an in-
crease in fire prevention activities and public education.
