Total Accidents for March 84
Total Accidents for 1972 282
Traffic enforcement contacts have more than doubled this year compared
to the first three months of last year.
Our new radar has been working on all shifts; we wrote 98 citations
for speeding since the new radar went into operation March 4th.
With our increase in traffic contacts we are still having difficulty
keeping our accident rate down.
Comparing our first three months of this year to the statistics for the
same period of last year, we have 91 more accidents, 76 of the 91
occurred on the public streets.
Two accident prone areas are becoming obvious, the main area is Rt. 83
south of 22nd Street.
• WvoB klg• 4-n7y •
All of the accidents are due to the back up of traffic starting at 22nd
Street and then reaching the bridge deck over the East West Tollway.
We have determined that this area is definitely an engineering problem.
Me State Division of Highways has been cmtracted and we are waiting
for their recoendatians .
The second area is Enco Drive at 22nd Street, this seems to be a local
problen.
Vehicles leaving Ca =erce Drive are tied up in traffic trying to enter
Spring Road during our evening peak hour, consequently the drivers attempt
to leave the area by using Enco Drive onto 22nd Street. Due to the heavy
traffic flow on 22nd Street the vehicles have difficulty entering the arterial
and produce right angle collisions. A traffic light at the intersection
may solve the problem, however this =s up to the State Division of Highways.

Numerous inspections were made in conjunction with Hinsdale Sani-
tary District 'Trunk Sewer Job and Special Assessment Jobs.
Regular inspections have been made of the new Fire Station.
MISCELLANEOUS
Work on the new Culvert to carry Ginger Creek under Royal Vale
Drive has been delayed by weath-,r and high water.
Survey work and preliminary plans were completed for extension of
the widening of Oak Brook Road from the Route 83 Grade Separation
to Spring Road and work completed to determine approximate cost
of the proposed project.
The original drawings and negatives for the Comprehensive Plan
plates were obtained from General Planning, were sorted out and the
work required for the Plate Revisions determined.

DuPage County Highway Department plans for widening and signali-
zation of the intersections of Oak Brook Road with Midwest and
Myers Roads were reviewed, and project approval was recommended.
Illinois Toll Road Engineers were contacted re back -up problems
at the Springy Road Toll Road Entrance (across 22nd Street).
Preliminary indications are that a second lane will be installed
to partially solve the problem. Additional action will be necessary
to stop the cross traffic movements during peak traffic periods.
DuPage County Highway Department proposals for widening of York
Road south of Oak Brook Road and Oak Brook Road east from York
Road to the Toll Road were reviewed and possible alternate layouts
prepared.
I attended the Annual Highway and Traffic Engineering Conference
at the University of Illinois. Items discussed include the 1972
construction program, funding available for both State and local
projects, new traffic signal and control developments, the new
traffic manual, and traffic engineering developments,
A meeting was held with the owners and operators of the "Sexton
Land Fill" regarding a water run -off problem affecting 'Near Drop
Lake." Corrective action was agreed upon and is being taken.
