Our accidents on the streets and highways are the lowest since April of 171, this could be attributed to fhe increase of traffic contacts. The past month this writer and Patrolman Hayes attended Northwestern University "Traffic Studies Workshop". The three days were well spent as it gave us a better insight on accidents related to improperly designed or antiquated roadway systems. 0. ( l 3 `i ' ." _`'- *'1-, , =z! The roa&ays should be designed to safely move the maximum amount of traffic with minimum delay. At this time York Road and 31st does not comply with these standards. ' Detective Division Report Page -3- A crime prevention program called "Operation Identification" has been initiated by this Division, and information has been disseminated to the M fs media to inform the citizens of the program. The program is simple and serves a dual purpose; (1) to deter the would -be burglar from attempting to enter a residence participating in the program and (2) to assist law enforcement officers in the identification of recovered property. The adult citizens of flak Brook may come to the Oak Brook Police station and check out an engraving tool. This tool is used by the citizen to engrave an identifying number on articles of value, such as televisions, cameras, bicycles, radios etc. The citizen should use his (head of the household) driver's license mmber followed by the abbreviation "ILL" for Illinois. When the tool is returned to the Oak Brook Police station, decals are distributed stating that "all items of value on these • premises have been marked for ready identification by this last enforcement agency". It is expected that this program will meet with the success it has in the other U. S.
