Oak Brook, Illinois 60521 M: Departumental Report - Police
June, 1971
Gentlemen:
The month of June has continued to show progress in all areas of
the DeparWent .
Our Selective Enforcement Program., in the Traffic Division, cnatinues
to show a decrease in the amount of accidents, and at the same time
we are realizing additional traffic flow through our area of juris-
diction on a month to renth basis. I am concerned that we will now
realize a heavy increase in traffic which was brou&t an by reason
of detours with construction and etc. We are making every effort
to plan ahead for these additional projected problems and will do the
very best that we can to handle any given situation as it occurs.
The Detective Division has had another extremely heavy month duo
primarily to the fact that we are short one detective at this tam.
The Juvenile Bureau has also realized an increase primarily due to
the fact that teenagers are out of school for the summer.
Me Comumunicatiaus Division ort is self explanatory. I will ask
you to note once again the number of false alarms we are receiving.
This section of the Comanricatians Report is the third and final
report indicating the alarm. activity. This has been done in the form
of a 30 day report over the past 90 days. A report on the solution
to this problem and possible recocumdatians will be mule through the
Chain, of command within the next 30 days.

In our efforts to beep the Board fully aware of problems

polled to advise that our oubuLance ,siUatim is »

report on this problem will be offered at our next testing
with the Public Safety Committee,
The Depart, having had a vacancy in the Uuform
Division since the resigmatioa of Sergeant Klusak, was
filled July 1, 1971. Our new Patrolman is Laois P. Hayes
who comes to us from the Chicago Police Department where
he has served on for approximately one year. Officer Mayes
has had all of his basic police training and appears to
have the g7jalificatians necessary in the police profession.

So far this year our enforcement has more than tripled from 6.6 citations
per day for this year coupared to 2.0 citations per day for the same
period last year. Ws concentration on selective enforcement has man-
aged to keep our accident rate from climbing in proportion to the increas-
ing number of vehicles using our hi&Way system.
This mmth the Traffic Division conducted and reviewed two traffic surveys.
40 man hours were end conducting and tabulating this infoxuation. All
of the information was forwarded to Mr. Urhasse n for his review and analysis .

Mie intersection of 22nd and York Road, which has bow aw of our
MOA accident locations, has shown a marked decrease in accidents
since the installation of the left tug arrows. So far year
we have investigated tin accidents at that JAterwti4m

The intersection of Route 83 and 31st. Sit VjOt should be given
sow inwdiate can ideration for widening 31st Street to ac coeamodate
a left turn lane.
With the increase of traffic due to the construction at Route 83 and
Butterfield RDad, and all the traffic detoured through Oak Brook, for
the next two years we will be iu a serious state of affairs in our
attempt to move traffic through our Village.
