Our Department has been directly involved in the apprehension of seven fleeing felons ranging in car theft to burglary as well as numerous other activities which are detailed in the .Detective Division Report. The traffic problem in and around our Jurisdiction is not getting any better, but as the Traffic Division's Report in- dicates, we have been able to suppress the increase of fatalities and serious injuries which is normally exv,Acted when you have a sudden increase in traffic in any given area. I credit this two our selective enforcement procedures which we installed some months ago. On August 23, 1971, we filled the vacancy for one patrolman which was created by the death of Richard Larson. The new patrolman is Kenneth L. Baker., who is 33 years of age and he re- sides in Glendale Heights. His wife is a nurse at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and they are eDgmting their first child in the spring. Our second fatality was August 9, 1971, when Officer Larson was involved in a m3torcycle accident on Conmmerce Drive. Looking at the Enforcement Program and the hazardous moving violations, since January 1, 1971, we cited 749 speeding violators using TASCAR and RADAR, This figure represents nearly half of our total hazardous moving violations. The MfOr cen. ent of speed laws helps to keep our accident rate down aad is very instrumental in reducing personal injury accidents. On Septe.ber 13, 1971, Traffic Division Officers, Fleming and Colomer, will attend Northwestern University Traffic institute for a three week course in accident investigation. - Respectfully submitted, Sgt.
