Accreditation Manager or whether to hire former Police Sgt. Alan Borkovec

Housing Authority v. Village of Oak Brook before Judge Zagel in federal
court.
In the Gaik v. Oak Brook Police Department, Attorney De Ano gave an
update to the Board of the proceedings. The Board discussed the feasibility
of a settlement in the case. Trustee Aktipis argued that the Board of
Trustees is entitled to know that a settlement was brought before the Village
in this case and has a right to authorize settlement. Attorney De Ano
explained that IRMA was not willing to settle as one was only a monetary
demand of a $200,000 settlement and a response was provided to the
demand. Attorney De Ano indicated that if the Board wishes to settle the
lawsuit that it would at the Village's expense, as IRMA is not willing to pay
the settlement demand. He exited the meeting at 9:10 p.m.
Trustee Aktipis said that regardless of the IRMA position on this matter, the
Board should have had the opportunity to decide whether the case could be
settled. Trustee Kennedy responded that in his view it would have been
premature to settle the case.
