The Library is hosting its own version of The Great American Read. This national program sponsored by PBS, features an 8-part series and offers the opportunity to vote for America’s most-loved novel from a list of 100 titles. (Checkout a title from that list of 100 to enter on your summer reading log!) Your vote will help us determine OBPL’s most-loved novel. In October, the library will announce the winning title and all voters will be entered into a drawing for a prize; one for adults and one for ages under 18! Dog Days of Summer July 9-13 Pet Food for Fines $1 in fines will be forgiven for every can of dog/cat food. Payment for lost or damaged items are not included. All cans will be donated to Dupage County Animal Services. Even if you don't have fines, donations are appreciated. K-9 Becks Demonstration - Monday, July 9 @ 10 am Join Oak Brook Police Officer Andrew Franczak and K-9 Becks for a demonstration of his skills, including drug detection, basic obedience and bite training. Choosing the Right Dog for Your Family - Thursday, July 12 @ 1 pm Andy Salis from DuPage County Animal Services will help you choose the dog who will thrive in your household. Doggy Ice Cream Social - Friday, July 13 @ 2 pm Bring your dog to the Library for an ice cream social. Frosty Paws provided for dogs, ice cream cups for the humans. Friday, July 13 @ 11 am This fairytale party will feature two of your favorite fairytale friends! Tinkerbell and Rapunzel will be visiting us and hope to meet all of you, take pictures, and share some of their favorite stories. Come dressed as your favorite character: princess, prince, villain, etc. We’ll play some games and make a cool fairytale craft! Ages 2-8. Registration is required. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Benihana Teen Sushi-Rolling Demo Wednesday, July 11 @ 3 pm Benihana will be here to guide teens in how to make their own sushi roll! July Storytimes Toddling 2s-3s Thursdays, July 5, 12, 19 & 26 @ 10:30 am This is a perfect program to introduce little ones to the library. We’ll enjoy some good books, sing songs, dance, do fingerplays, and more! We’ll also make crafts which are related to the theme of the day. A parent or caregiver must stay with children during the program. *No sessions on June 14, and 21. Registration required. Grades K-2 Storytime/Art Mondays, July 9, 16 & 23 @ 4 pm Join us for some summertime stories that will awaken our creative juices. A story-inspired art project will follow. Please dress for mess! Cha Cha Cha: Latin American Dance & Music Wednesday, July 18 @ 7 pm Join Nelson and Paola Sosa as they take the audience on a trip through Central and South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. This show not only features the artistry and energy of Nelson and Paola, but also makes the audience a part of it all! They will have participants learning how to play instruments for Latin Rhythms as well as learning how to dance basic steps of Cumbia, Merengue, Cha Cha Cha, Bachata, and Polka. All ages.
