Vagabonding Around the World
Tuesday, January 8 @ 7 pm
Brian Michalski works to educate and inspire budding global
nomads to serve others and explore new places. He achieves this
mission by teaching vagabonds of various ages and backgrounds
what he has learned from his extensive travel experiences and how
travelers can learn from his successes and mistakes along the way.

Jazz Concert with Petra van Nuis
Sunday, January 13 @ 2 pm
The pairing of jazz vocalist Petra van Nuis and guitarist Andy
Brown is one of those rare combinations where all the parts seem
to fit. Recent performance highlights include the Chautauqua Jazz
Party, the Chicago Jazz Festival, the Cleveland Classic Jazz Party,
the Roswell Jazz Festival and several European tours. Petra and
Andy continue to spread their swinging sounds to music lovers far

Stock & Bond Investing
Wednesday, January 16 @ 10 am
A one-hour course in the basics of stocks and bonds for the student who wants to
self-direct their investments. No previous investing experience is required and all ages
of students are encouraged to attend. The instructor is a recent retiree with 42 years of
experience in self-directed stock investing.
Understanding Alzheimer’s 101: A Closer Look at Dementia
Wednesday, January 23 @ 10 am
Natalie McFarland, RN, BSN, Dementia Educator will explain how to understand memory
loss and the warning signs of Alzheimer’s. Learn myths and facts about Alzheimer’s and
available treatment options. The presenter will offer free “Memory Care Screening”
appointments to those interested in following up with them at a later time.
Curry Two Ways: Cooking Demonstration
Saturday, January 26 @ 10 am
Are you afraid to try Indian food because you don’t like curry? Indrani
Hausner from Monbool will show you how not all curries are the same
and there is more to curry than you may think. She will demonstrate
how to make Chickpea Tikka Masala and Cauliflower Korma. Tastings
will be provided.

Holiday Lights Recycling
Through January 11
As you go through those strings of lights,
you are bound to find some that don't work
anymore. You can again recycle those
lights at the Library! Look for the bin in
the staff parking lot (across from the book
returns). Any holiday lights will be accepted
by Elgin Recycling (www.elginrecycling.com). And since the
box is outside, you can donate at any time that is convenient
for you.
Friends of the Library News
The Friends are still in need of books for their Used Book
Sale. All donations can be dropped off at the
Circulation Desk.

We meet each month to discuss a good book
while discovering fun facts about it and the
author. Snacks will be provided!

Winter Reading Program
When the winter chill sets in, There’s Snow
Better Time to Read! The reading program
runs from December 20 and continues through
March 1. We welcome and offer incentives to
little ones who enjoy a good picture book, our
emerging readers, as well as those who are
proficient readers as they progress through the program.

Toddling 2s & 3s

This is a perfect program to introduce little ones to the
library. We’ll enjoy some good books, sing songs, dance, do
fingerplays and more! We’ll also make crafts which are related
to the theme of the day. A parent or caregiver must stay with
children during the program.

Preschoolers attend this program independently. They will
wiggle and giggle while they interact with books, activities,
games, music and crafts.
Bumble Bee Yoga
Two different age groups at two different times!

Grades 1 - 3 on
Wednesdays, January 16, 23 & 30 @ 4:15 - 5 pm
This fun introduction to yoga will teach
basic poses, and stories and games will
be included to enhance the experience.
Children will also learn calming techniques
and increase their strength and flexibility!
Yoga mats will be provided. Parents will
need to sign a waiver at the start of the
class. Registration required. Space is limited!
