CALL TO ORDER:
The Regular Meeting of the Oak Brook Hotel, Convention & Visitors Committee of the Village of
Oak Brook was held in the Upper Level Conference Room at the Butler Government Center and
called to order by Chairman Canfield at 10:02 a.m.
PRESENT: Dr. Abbasy, Norm Canfield, David Carlin, Kristin Duncan, Mort Kouklan, Martin
Schooley and Suzanne Beres
ABSENT: Melanie Bradshaw, Walt Hajduk and Nicole Patterson.
IN ATTENDANCE: Rick Ginex, Village Manager, Donna Bettin, Executive Assistant, Beth
Marchetti, DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Hamish McDonald, Point
B Communications.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A. Kristin Duncan motioned to approve the May 10 2018 Meeting. Seconded by Dr. Abbasy.
Voice vote. Motioned carried.
4. I-INFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Ratification of Release of Funds to the DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau - 201 8
Second Quarter Hotel Tax Receipts - $26,190.14. Dr. Abbasy motioned to ratify the release
of funds to the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau in the amount of $26,190. 14. Seconded
by Kristin Duncan. Voice Vote. Motion carried.
B. 2017 Marketing Plan Update - Hamish McDonald from Point B gave an update of the
Summer Campaign still in progress by showing the 3 different video's and a power point
presentation. He then explained the outstanding programmatic results to-date from the
digital videos. Hamish explained the results from Facebook which also performed very
well. He went on to list all of the media avenues taken for the Summer Leisure campaign.
Hamish moved on to the next step slides which included website optimizations, with
possible new content and potential future conversations on direction. Regarding first
quarter, Hamish explained that Point B needs to start working on first quarter in the fourth
quarter and he asked the Committee a couple of questions regarding any trends, what is
most important to the Hotel. Discussion ensued.
5. NEW BUSINESS
A. 2019 Budget Discussion - Jason Paprocki distributed a handout and explained that he
estimated a total of 5 years with a 3oZ increase in revenue each year. He went on to explain
the increase in funds for 2018 so the Committee was able to add to their marketing budget.
Discussion will continue to the September meeting.
6. DU PAGE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU UPDATE _ BEth MATChEtti tAIKEd
about recent legislation that just happened in Springfield:
o Governor Rauner just signed a Convention & Visitors Bureau bill that assists
communities with funding of their convention centers
o There is a bill that has yet to be signed, that has a l0o/o cut because of DCEO's ability to
fund. DCEO will give a small portion of the funds to small bureaus. DCVB will receive
their full funding.

Beth explained that the DCV invested in a booking site and talked about how the Natatorium in
Westmont and how that will help the hotels.
7. OTHER BUSINESS
David Carlin, Chamber of Commerce, explained that they are in the process of planning 2019
events and meetings and the Chariot project (Last Mile Transportation Services) is off and
running and is doing very well.
Manager Ginex continued to explain the increasing ridership that is servicing Commerce Dr.
to/from the Elmhurst train station. As additional businesses express interest in participating, it is
hopeful that they can include the Hinsdale train station as well.
David Carlin continued to explain that the Chamber received a grant from DCEO for a program
working with high school students. He continued to list upcoming Chamber functions/events.
Suzanne Beres, Oakbrook Center Mall, gave mall updates. She touched on the music series in
The District and just finished the movie nights. Average attendance was approximately 500
people.
Manager Ginex continued with updates that included:
o Plane being delivered to KidZania in the mall
o 2019 Budgetprocess
o Heinz Company is taking ownership of the McDonald's building on22nd street which will
be coming down. The Village has no idea as to what will be going in its place.
o Draft Commercial Revitalization plan is being presented at the next Village Board
meeting. This plan was last updated in2001.
o McDonalds Soccer Fields has seen some interest. The Park District is going to
referendum in the amount of $ 17 million for this property.
. School District 56 in Hinsdale will also be going for a school referendum.
o The Village is putting together some projects along Jorie Blvd and hotel district
. Widening Windsor. Tollway is looking at widening the bridge
o Developers are coming in.
o Macy's Home Center is leaving.
Discussion ensued.
Next meeting is September 13, 2018,8:30 AM at the Hyatt Lodge.

Motion by Dr. Abbasy, seconded by Mort Kouklan to adjourn the meeting of the Hotel
Convention and Visitors Committee at 11:17 arn.
