Minutes - 02/14/2019 - Hotel Convention and Visitors CommitteeMINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 14, 2019 MEETING OF THE OAK BROOK HOTEL, CONVENTION AND VISITORS COMMITTEE OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK APPROVED AS WRITTEN ON MAY 9,2019 CALL TO ORDER: Th. R.grt"r M..t*g of the Oak Brook Hotel, Convention & Visitors Committee of the Village of Oak Brook was held in the Upper Level Conference Room at the Butler Government Center and called to order by Chairman Canfield at 10:02 a.m. PRESENT: Dr. Abbasy, Norm Canfield, Martin Schooley, and Nicole Patterson. David Carlin participated by phone conference. ABSENT: Melanie Bradshaw, Kristin Duncan, Bhazik Shah, Mort Kouklan, Steve Mansmith and Caryn Torres IN ATTENDANCE: Rick Ginex, Village Manager, Donna Bettin, Executive Assistant, Beth Marchetti, DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau, Tracy Laurent, Hyatt Lodge, Rob Grusin, Stephanie Fallara and Ryan Swanson, Point B Communications, and Anna Schapiro, KinshiP Chairman Canfield reported that Kristin Duncan is being promoted and leaving the Marriott. He acknowledged her efforts on the Committee and wished her luck in her new position. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. Dr. Abbasy motioned to approve the August 9,2018 and the September 13,2018 meeting minutes. Seconded by M. Schooley. Voice vote. Motioned carried. 4. LTNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Ratification of Release of Funds to the DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau - 2018 Fourth Quarter Hotel Tax Receipts - $31,034.84. M. Schooley motioned to ratify the release of funds to the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau in the amount of $3 I ,034 .84. Seconded by Dr. Abbasy. Voice Vote. Motion carried. Chairman Canfield moved item 7. Other Business, up on the agenda. Manager Ginex explained that the Hines Development plan will be brought to the Planned Development Commission on the 28th of February. The Board recently approved the Jupiter Development project which is a22 story condo development that will be on the north side of the mall. He reported that the Oakbrook Center Mall has changed ownership. Manager Ginex has met with the new director there and explained to the Committee some of the proposed changes in the works. Manager Ginex explained the upcoming changes with the Taste of Oak Brook. With the exit of McDonalds, their $100,000 sponsorship no longer exists. The Village is no longer allowing visitors to bring in their own alcohol. Alcohol will be sold by the Village and the parking fee will be raised to $20 p/vehicle. Hopefully this will help to defray some of the costs as the Board is looking to utilize the Hotel Motel Tax fund to recoup any expenses. Discussion ensued. Manager Ginex continued to report that the Village is upgrading their website so some positive changes are in the works. 5. NEW BUSINESS A. 2019 Marketing Plan UPdate - B. Website Strategy OAK BR00K HOTEL COMMITTEE Minutes Page I of2 Mtg. of February 14,2019 C. Brand Articulation All three of the above items were discussed together. Point B displayed an example of the website site map that included creative's and brand articulation. Next steps are the home page designs. They continued to show the different options for the home page, the different hotels and the ability to easily add different promotions and the booking engine. Point B moved into Brand Articulation and logo choice and they displaced 3 different creative concepts: l. Beyond the City Limits, 2. Only in Oak Brook and 3. Make Your Moment. Discussion ensued. The consensus was to use the design concept from #1 and the wording from #3. Point B will work on the design and send to all Committee members for their input before moving forward. 6. DU PAGE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU UPDATE - Beth MaTChEtti tAIKEd about current legislation moving forward in Springf,reld. 7. OTHER BUSINESS - Some discussion moved up on the agenda. David Carlin reported that the Chamber is very pleased with the updates proposed on the Commercial Revitalization Plan and will work with and in support of the Village moving forward and approving the plan.
