Heightened enforcement of Scotts Law,
After three troopers killed in IL
Oak Brook - April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The Oak Brook Police
Department has a long history of participating in increased enforcement efforts to enforce Scott’s Law.
With the recent tragic losses of three Illinois State Police troopers having died this year on state
highways, including two deaths related to Scott's Law violations, the Oak Brook Police Department
took an increased effort to both educate the public and enforce traffic laws related to distracted driving
and Scott’s Law. Scott’s Law mandates that drivers slow down, use caution and move over, if possible,
when approaching an emergency vehicle on the roadway. “I believed it was extremely important from a
traffic safety perspective and to demonstrate to our State Police colleagues that the Oak Brook Police
Department would do what we could to support their efforts. I am very appreciative of our officers’
efforts in this campaign.” said Chief James Kruger
These increased enforcement efforts between March 28th and April 6th resulted in;
• 12 Citations for Scott’s Law
• 15 Citations for other traffic violations
• 8 Written warnings
Please help us with this important traffic safety concern by educating others to the importance of
eliminating distractions while driving and driving safely around emergency vehicles.
