Minutes - 01/31/2013 - Hotel Convention and Visitors Committee OF 04,r MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 31, 2013 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE �G e 0 OAK BROOK HOTEL, CONVENTION AND VISITORS COMMITTEE OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK UNOFFICIAL DUE TO LACK OF A QUORUM, APPROVED AS WRITTEN ON OCTOBER 10, 2013. a m OOUNJI,�� CALL TO ORDER: The Special Meeting of the Oak Brook Hotel, Convention& Visitors Committee of the Village of Oak Brook was held in the West Wing Training Room of the Butler Government Center and called to order by Chairman Norm Canfield at 9:00 a.m. Chairman Norm Canfield welcomed everyone and since there were many new faces, he asked everyone to introduce themselves. PRESENT: Norm Canfield, Mort Kouklan, Jeremiah Drummond ABSENT: Chuck Fleming, Tom Cappucci, Iftikharul Abbasy and Martin Schooley. IN ATTENDANCE: David Niemeyer, Village Manager, Donna Bettin, Executive Secretary, Krystal Glispie, Hyatt Lodge, AJ. Kowski, Residence Inn, Daphene Stout, Marriott Oak Brook and Neil Flanders, Rob Grusin, Point B Comunications. Chairman Canfield discussed the nature of this meeting and asked Manager Niemeyer to report on the good news the Village received. Manager Niemeyer explained that the Village had applied for a$860,000 grant for the streetscape improvements from Spring Rd. to the Tollway, roughly half the cost of the project. After about a nine month waiting period, the Village received news just yesterday that this request was approved. He explained that this type of bid is highly competitive and the Village has been awarded two grants of this nature which is unusual. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Point B Creative Marketing Plan Presentation—Chairman Canfield asked Krystal Glispie to present the agenda item. Krystal explained that this is an opportunity to be creative and moving ahead keeping the marketing plan fresh and new. She then introduced Point B for their presentation. Rob Grusin explained what they are trying to achieve with the marketing and brand of the Hotels of Oak Brook, criteria, and thought process of coming up with a creative marketing plan. Rob conducted and discussed a power point presentation with three different marketing plans to choose from. After each marketing plan concept, Committee discussion ensued on both pros and cons of each concept. The Committee along with the Hotel Marketing Directors present came to a consensus that they prefer concept#1, "Get Out of the Loop" campaign. Chairman Canfield thanked Point B for their creative approach to a new campaign and would like to see them move forward with the new campaign. OAK BROOK HOTEL COMMITTEE Minutes Page 1 of).
