MINUTES OF THE APRIL 24,2019 MEETING OF THE OAK BROOK SPORTS CORE ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK APPROVED AS WRITTEN ON JUNE 25, 2019 7O U NI I CALL TO ORDER The Meeting of the Sports Core Advisory Committee of the Village of Oak Brook was held at the Oak Brook Golf Club and called to order by Chairwomen Angie Lopez at 6:00 p.m. PRESENT: Angie Lopez, John Anos, Lara Barber, Erin Converse,Kathy Miller, Frank Scarpiniti,Mike Stevens ABSENT: Melissa Martin, Lynna Smith IN ATTENDANCE: Village Manager Rick Ginex, Village President Gopal Lalmalani, Village Trustee John Baar, Executive Assistant Donna Bettin, Golf Club Manager Sean Creed, Jeff Kawucha, Golf Pro, Trustee Manzo arrived at 6:44 p.m. Manager Ginex introduced Allegra Wozniak from the Oak Brook Park District. She will be the new Manager at the Pool this year. She worked at the pool last year so she is familiar with pool operations. Chairwoman Lopez thanked everyone for attending and mentioned it might be a little noisy but she wanted the Committee to see the wonderful renovations that has been completed this past year. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairwoman Angie Lopez motioned to approve the minutes from the January 10, 2019 Sports Core Advisory Committee meeting as written. Seconded by Member Scarpiniti. Voice vote. Motion carried. PUBLIC COMMENTS—Resident Bill Lindeman expressed his concerns regarding the poor acoustics at this meeting and how great the golf facility looks. He expressed concerns regarding the gap in the posting of meeting minutes and how is the pool and tennis being subsidized by residents. Resident Don Adler distributed some Sports Core budget information. He explained the new committee he is on that was formed by the Village Board called the Long Term Strategic Planning Advisory Committee, brief overview of the Committee's purpose and responsibilities. He introduced Jim DePhillips as a member of the Committee. He quickly explained the handout he distributed which is an analysis of the Sports Core budget results from a couple of years ago. Resident Richard Labardi, he came to talk to the Committee regarding the Senior Family membership no longer including grandchildren. He would like to reinstate this membership. Chairwomen Lopez requested he explain why he wants it to be reinstated. In the past his granddaughters, have participated on swim team and tennis throughout the years on his Senior Family Membership. His granddaughters live in Downers Grove. GOLF COURSE UPDATE—Sean Creed talked about the golf course patio and pro shop renovation that began in 2016 as a three phase strategic plan. Last phase will be the clubhouse renovation. The last of the cart path work around the patio is complete. They are currently updating various tee. They are considering replacing bunkers,which is a huge project. Looking to possibly do the work in-house. He introduce Jeff Kawucha, Golf Pro. A. Social Media—Combined with Agenda item V.A under Pool/Swim Team Update. SCAC 4-24-19 Mtg Minutes POOL/SWIM TEAM UPDATE—Lara Barber explained that swim team registration will begin on May 1, 2019.She has distributed fliers to local PTO's for the program. Coaches are in place for the season and they made some minor changes this year to help improve the program. Communication with the Park District this year is improved regarding pool closings for swim meets and scheduled practice time. Chairwoman Lopez asked Trustee Baar if there was anything he wishes to add. He reported the many improvements done inside the Clubhouse and the surrounding grounds. Public Works have done a great job working hard to enhance the beauty of this amenity and getting the pool ready to open. The circle drive is done and looks great! Manager Ginex also mentioned that Connie Reid will spend some time at the pool to take memberships and train the Park District staff to enable them to do registrations/memberships in the future. A. Social Media—Chairwoman Lopez asked about the use of Social Media for the golf course. Jeff Kawucha explained to the Committee how frequently they utilize the benefits of social media and plans on improving their presence this year. It is their plan to try and send out emails once every couple of weeks to communicate to their members latest news, rates and programs. They are planning a Party on the Patio to celebrate the opening of the patio on May 15th. Discussion ensued. B. Updating/Educating Staff about Changes to Brochures and Programming-discussion was held during social media. C. Letters to Village Board—The Chairwomen Lopez has requested that the Commitee be made aware of any complaints or compliments moving forward so they know what works and what doesn't. Village Manager and respective staff responds to all complaints or concerns that get communicated to the Managers office. Discussion ensued. Chairwoman Lopez spoke directly to Mr. Labardi regarding his concern and the membership changes he came to address. After a lengthy discussion, Chairwoman Lopez requested that he speak directly to Manager Ginex at the conclusion of the meeting. TENNIS PROGRAM UPDATE—Sean Creed reported that the lower Tennis Courts are done. The remaining courts hopefully will be finished within the week, weather permitting.New Tennis Pro has been hired for the season. Manager Ginex reported that the new Tennis Pro, Jim Lezette is excited about this season. He is planning on running some new tennis programs and working with some vendors to enhance the pro shop. Information on programs and memberships will be sent out this week to all new and past members. Discussion ensued. 2019 CAPITAL PROJECTS UPDATE—Manager Ginex distributed handouts that are pictures of the renovations done inside the Bath &Tennis Clubhouse,the circle drive, and a new ADA compliant sidewalk that curves down and leads to the pool. He praised the Public Works staff, Markam, and the landscapers for doing a tremendous job. The inside of the B & T was also had some beautiful enhancements done which also looks fabulous! Discussion ensued. OTHER BUSINESS—None ADJOURN MEETING- Chairwomen Lopez motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:19 p.m. Member Scarpiniti seconded. Voice Vote. Motion carried.
