Oak Brook Police Officer Honored with 2019 Award of Valor
from the Hundred Club of DuPage County
Oak Brook, IL – The Hundred Club of DuPage County will present Oak Brook Police Sergeant
Danny Ramirez, and Officers George Peterson, Timothy Walsh, Nicholas Baca, and Jeffrey
Marek their 2019 Award of Valor during its Annual Meeting and Valor Awards Dinner on
October 30, 2019 at the Lisle/Naperville Hilton. The dinner recognizes first responders for their
acts of courage and heroism.
On October 5, 2019 at approximately 0351 HRS, members of the Oak Brook Police Department
were called to a traffic crash on the I-88 ramp from Illinois Route 83. They arrived on the scene
to find a vehicle overturned on its roof, completely engulfed in flames. A female driver was
trapped in the vehicle.
The five responding officers acted immediately. Officers George Peterson and Timothy Walsh
used fire extinguishers to suppress the flames. This was happening while Officer Nicholas Baca
struck the side window with an impact weapon to gain entry into the vehicle. Sergeant Danny
Ramirez and Officer Jeffrey Marek extricated the woman to safety.
The actions of these officers demonstrated a fervent call of duty and high level of teamwork that
culminated in a successful rescue of the motorist. They did this without regard for their safety to
save the life of another. The responding Fire Department Battalion Chief stated if it weren’t for
the quick actions of these officers the woman would not have survived.
“An act of valor is defined as an action above and beyond the call of duty; and when a person
exhibits exceptional courage, extraordinary decisiveness, and presence of mind as well as
unusual swiftness of action, regardless of his or her personal safety, in an attempt to save or
protect human life”, said Lisa Savegnago, President of the Hundred Club of DuPage County. The
five responding officers of Oak Brook Police Department actions mimic the definition of valor. .
It’s with great honor that The Hundred Club of DuPage County bestows the 2019 Award of
Valor to these Officers.”
