CALL TO ORDER
The Regular Meeting of the Oak Brook Hotel, Convention &Visitors Committee of the Village of Oak Brook was held in
the Upper Level Conference Room at the Butler Government Center and called to order by Norm Canfield at 10:03 a.m.
PRESENT: Dr. Abbasy,Norm Canfield, Mort Kouklan, Steve Mansmith, Dick Turner
ABSENT: Melanie Bradshaw, Kathryn Dwyer, Tim Gieges,Nicole Patterson, Bhazik Shaw
IN ATTENDANCE: Rick Ginex, Village Manager, Connie Reid, Executive Assistant, Trustee Saiyed,Rob Grusin and
Hamish McDonald of Point B and Tiffany Braun of Kinship
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A. Dr. Abbasy motioned to approve the May 9, 2019 meeting minutes. Seconded by Mort Kouklan. Voice vote.
Motioned carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Ratification of Release of Funds to the DuPage Convention and Visitors
Bureau - 2019 Second Quarter Hotel Tax Receipts - $24,660.60 - . Mort Kouklan motioned to ratify the
release of funds to the DuPage Convention& Visitors Bureau in the amount of $24,660.60. Seconded by Dr.
Abbasy. Voice Vote. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS
A. 2019 Marketing Plan Update
Point B unveiled the new live "Only in Oak Brook"website. Aesthetically mirrors the "Only in Oak Brook"
campaign and contains the LTSCA points identified in discovery sessions early this year: Value, Piece of
Mind, Shopping and Dining. Highlighting the robust structure and modular aspect,providing ease of adding
and updating content. Showcased the new booking engine. Discussion continued regarding content, statistic
gathering and updating data. Previewed summer video and talked about the use of video that had previously
been shot eliminating the need for additional footage. Recap of billboard,print ads and radio spot on The
Mix. Presented numbers regarding views, click throughs, Google searches, and graph of Campaign success.
Direct mail designs, holiday experiences and cultivating a relationship with Oak Brook Center.
Tiffany Braun, Kinship, presented a PR update. Her firm has met with all of the Oak Brook properties
gathering information regarding new menus, anything the hotels were actively doing, renovations etc. Spoke
about press releases and their three pronged approach: Value of Oak Brook vs. City, Family&Leisure,
Groups & Meetings. Explained Google forms that sales directors should have received, they can submit with
anything that the property has going on and Kinship will start pitching it. Kinship will work closely with
Point B regarding events and make sure they are on the Only in Oak Brook site.
DU PAGE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU UPDATE
Rick Ginex read an update from Beth Marchetti—Had a meeting regarding the economic plan and 42 billion
dollar plan for state tourism,plan to be released at the end of August. Greg Bedalov returns as CEO of
Choose DuPage. There was a conversation regarding the hardships of suburban hotels because of the 7,000
new beds added in Chicago and the need to create a new demand in the suburbs. DuPage Sports Commission
is working on three bids including the Olympic swimming to come to the Natatorium, there is a new DuPage
video on the screen at Oak Brook Center announcing the new DCVB website, and they are hosting a
Connect Chicago pre familiarization tour.
OTHER BUSINESS
Discussion ensued regarding hotel monetary support of the Taste of Oak Brook and Polo.
A. September 12, 2019 Meeting to Discuss 2020 Marketing Budget
Changed Budget-meeting date to September 19`h at 8:OOam at the Lodge
ADJOURNMENT
Dr Abbasy motioned, Mort Kouklan seconded,to adjourn the Hotel Convention and Visitors
Committee meeting at 11:08 am.
