Five Sullivan Brothers: the Inspiration Behind Saving Private Ryan Sunday, November 3 @ 2 pm Hal Burke, veteran and president of Victor & Valor Memories, presents the early WWII Pacific War naval history, as well as the legacy of the five Sullivan brothers who died, along with 687 of their shipmates when their ship was sunk on November 13, 1942. This presentation features some of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century as they were heard on radio, including Johnny Mercer, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and a rare 1934 performance from George Gershwin! NoveList just may be your solution. This database is a comprehensive readers’ advisory resource. You can find titles, articles, and lists for both fiction and nonfiction. NoveList can be found on our website in two locations. 1. You can take advantage of its full range of offerings through the link found under: Electronic Resources\General Research\NoveList. 2. The Read-alikes feature is available through the Library’s catalog. Once you select a title, Read-alikes appear in a frame on the right side. Give it a try! Holiday Lights Recycling November 22 - January 10 Have you started decorating for the holidays? As you go through those strings of lights, you are bound to find some that don't work anymore. You can again recycle those lights at the Library! Look for the bin in the staff parking lot (across from the book returns). Any holiday lights will be accepted by Elgin Recycling (www.elginrecycling.com). And since the box is outside, you can donate at any time that is convenient for you. Books & Bites Book Discussion Monday, November 25 @ 4:30 pm New Kid by Jerry Craft Hang out, talk about books and enjoy some good snacks! See the Circulation Desk for a copy of the book a few weeks before each session. Recommended for grades 4 & up. Bumble Bee Yoga Tuesdays, Nov 12, 19 & 26 @ 11:30 am This fun introduction to yoga will teach basic poses. Stories and games will be included to enhance the experience. Children will also learn calming techniques and increase their strength and flexibility! Yoga mats will be provided. Parents will need to sign a waiver at the start of the class. Ages 3-5. Space is limited. 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Sign up your newborn, infant or toddler for our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program. This ongoing program will help build your child’s vocabulary, print awareness, early literacy skills and more as you read 1000 books before they start their first day of Kindergarten.
