Utility Walk-In Step Van
November 17, 2016
This memo is meant as a supplement to the Request for Proposals and is in response to questions asked
by interested proposers. Questions concerning this memo should be addressed to Chief Barry Liss, (630)
368-5204, bliss@oak-brook.org and Battalion Chief Jeff Marciniak, (630) 368-5210, jmarciniak@oak-
brook.org.
1. Do you want A/C in the driver area?
Yes, A/C and Heat
2. For A/C in the cargo area, are you looking for a separate roof unit with capacity or will a dual A/C
engine compressor be good enough?
Separate Roof Unit
3. Do you want the aluminum wheels polished? That is NOT a standard option.
Polished Aluminum Wheels
4. Do you desire tilt or telescopic steering wheel?
Tilt Specified, Telescopic Desired
5. If you add synthetic axle lubes, it extends axle warranty from 2 years to 4 years as standard.
Synthetic Axle Lubes Preferred
6. What HP do want for the engine? Choices are: 200HP, 220HP or 240HP.
240 HP
7. For the transmission, do you desire a Park Pawl Position?
NO
8. If this will be a fire truck that I assume it will be, it needs to be an EVS version of the Allison
Transmission. If it is not, the transmission warranty would be voided in anything goes wrong.
Not a Fire Truck, Will Be a Utility/Supply Truck Capable of Responding Lights & Sirens
9. Will you ever use the PTO provisions on the transmission?
No, Not Anticipated
10. Fuel Tank – chassis spec shows a 90 gallon rear center mount fuel tank but the specs show a 50
gallon. Freightliner does not to my knowledge offer a 50 gallon fuel tank.
90 Is Acceptable
11. Towing Capacity – specs reference a “standard towing package”, we offer a class 3 or class 4
receiver hitch depending on what you will be towing and required weight.
Class 3
12. Paint Color of Vehicle – If Red is requested we will need a Sherwin Williams paint code to match
what red you want. There are many shades of red and we would want to get the right color.
Sikkens Red #FLNA 3042
13. Heat and Air Conditioning – Spec references “Rear of Vehicle”. Let us know if A/C is wanted in
the cab area as well.
Want in Cab Area As Well
14. As for the heat and A/C in the cargo area of the truck – we will need to know what BTU is
required for both the A/C unit and the heating unit. We have options for a 30K BTU and 50K
BTU heater in the cargo area. We have options for cargo A/C but all options would require a
generator or Inverter to power the unit.
Nothing Specific, Please List Options
15. Rear Bumper – Specs call out for “chrome”. We currently do not offer a chrome rear bumper
but would be able to provide the bumper that comes with the integrated towing package (class
3 or 4). This bumper can be painted to your preference.
Acceptable, Please List Specifics of the Option
16. Side view mirrors – Specs call out for “electric”. The below photo is of our chrome, electric,
velvac, heated side view mirrors. This mirror will match the chrome front bumper. Turn signals
are also integrated in these mirrors.
Acceptable
17. We noticed there is no provision mentioned for a backup alarm – is this something you would
like to have as part of this spec? It is minimal cost and a B/U alarm already comes standard in
the Freightliner dunnage box – we would simply install it.
Yes
18. Auxiliary fuel port – We also noticed there is no provision mentioned for an auxiliary fuel port –
if you are going to be using a generator or other equipment requiring fuel, this port will be
necessary.
Not Necessary
19. Air Horns – Specs call out “Dual Trumpet”. Do these need to be air or can they be air
simulated? We have options for air simulated horns. These horns are electric but serve the
same purpose as the air horns.
Air Only, No Simulation
20. On the proposal it asks for rear heat and a/c. For this to be done properly the van body will have
to be insulated and lined, I will list the price of this on the options page.
Okay
