Minutes -10/10/2019 - Hotel Convention and Visitors Committee PGE OF 04 kB9 MINUTES OF THE OCTOBERI0, 2019 MEETING OF THE OAK BROOK HOTEL, °o CONVENTION AND VISITORS COMMITTEE OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK Q APPROVED AS WRITTEN OR AMENDED ON May 14, 2020 � .r 4 t' ti eCOUNS4,��� CALL TO ORDER The Regular Meeting of the Oak Brook Hotel, Convention& Visitors Committee of the Village of Oak Brook was held in the Upper Level Conference Room at the Butler Government Center and called to order by Norm Canfield at 10:30am on October 10, 2019 ROLL CALL PRESENT: Dr Abbasy,Norm Canfield, David Carlin, Mort Kouklan, Lee Hoener and Dick Turner ABSENT: Melanie Bradshaw, Kathy Dwyer,Nicole Patterson and Bhazik Shah ALSO IN ATTENDANCE: Rick Ginex, Village Manager, Connie Reid, Executive Assistant, Beth Marchetti, DuPage Convention& Visitors Bureau, Cathleen Knobbe, Drake, Tracy Laurent, Hyatt Lodge, Rob Grusin, Point B, Hamish McDonald, Point B and Stephanie Fallara, Point B. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. Dr. Abbasy motioned to approve the minutes from the August 8, 2019 Meeting, Seconded by Mort Kouklan. Voice Vote. Motion Carried. B. Dr. Abbasy motioned to approve the minutes from the September 19, 2019 Special Meeting. Seconded by Lee Hoener. Voice Vote. Motion Carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Ratification of Release of Funds to the DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau -2019 Third Quarter Hotel Tax Receipts - $37,690.98. Dr. Abbasy motioned to approve the release of funds. Seconded by Dick Turner. Voice Vote. Motion Carried. NEW BUSINESS A. 2020 Meeting Schedule To be distributed via email. B. 2020 Marketing Plan Norm gave a short summary of the challenges facing the hotel community that were discussed at the September 19, 2019 special meeting, siting more inventory in Chicago, the departure of McDonalds and a few topics that Point B covered. Beth Marchetti touched on the STR report figures. David Carlin gave a short recap of the economic highlights in Oak Brook and Oakbrook Terrace; the legalization of marijuana, new legislation regarding red light cameras. He then turned the floor over to Point B. The focus for 2020 will be keeping their dollars in market. They will bring back the successful portions of the campaign and institute some new ideas, one is to market weddings. They introduced the video that will play on Linkedln and Facebook and email blast. Targeting Linkedln by job titles,trying to get the video to those who would best benefit from it. Point B went through the marketing plan for the remainder of the year; Holiday Video, radio spots on Eric in the morning,print campaign. For next year one of the biggest enhancements is adding budget money for weddings, other than that the budget will stay flat. Point B went through the budget highlights and where money will be spent. C. Recommendation/Presentation to Village Board DU PAGE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU UPDATE Beth Marchetti, spoke of the bill signed by Gov. Pritzker saying that non home rule municipalities can now use up to 25% of their hotel tax for other purposes. In the bill it states that communities have to support local tourism. Beth also touched upon mandatory panic buttons. She went on to talk about regional sales mission, they have started a sports commission in May. The Natatorium is structurally up, should be open April 2020—Olympic synchronized swimming will be held there in July 2020. Cyclocross at Cantigny at talked about. Talked about Frida Kahlo, the super bowl of Art, this will be a huge event. OTHER BUSINESS Rick Ginex went over some of the projects that have started in the Oak Brook area. David Carlin expanded upon the new openings around Oak Brook. Brought up a Village Business Registry. ADJOURNMENT Meeting adjourned by Norm Canfield at 11:35.
