CALL TO ORDER:
The Special Meeting of the Oak Brook Hotel, Convention&Visitors Committee of the Village of
Oak Brook was held at the Hyatt Lodge at McDonalds Campus and called to order by Chairman
Norm Canfield at 10:06 a.m.
Chairman Norm Canfield called the roll with the following persons:
PRESENT: Norm Canfield, Mort Kouklan, and Martin Schooley
ABSENT: Chris Johnson, Chuck Fleming, Dr. Abbasy and Jeremiah Drummond.
IN ATTENDANCE: David Niemeyer,Village Manager, Donna Bettin, Executive Assistant,
Krystal Glispie, Hyatt Lodge and Rob Grusin,Stephanie Fallara and Jason Kallen
from Point B Communications.
2014 MARKETING PLAN PRESENTATION - Chairman Canfield explained the reasoning for
the special meeting. There will be a recap of 2013 from Point B and a presentation for the 2014
marketing plan.
Marty Schooley reported that 2013 was flat in the group business that did not reach their budget
goal. Transient was visible in Chicago, but no growth here in Oak Brook. Many companies have
change the way they do things. Norm Canfield agreed.
Discussion ensued included Monday—Thursday &weekend bookings, first quarter struggles,
amount of weddings booked, etc.
Manager Niemeyer requested that a member of the Hotel Committee and Point B attend a Village
Board meeting where the budget will be discussed to possibly do a presentation and answer any
questions.
Point B conducted a 2013 recap presentation. They reviewed the leisure performance results
some of which were not that great. They suggest utilizing funds elsewhere for the unsuccessful
areas of this marketing aspect. The leisure creative billboards were 88, 290, 294 & Roosevelt Rd.
The Group performance results seem to do a lot better. The Keurig promotion seemed to do
better over the gift cards. Point B tried to target groups in the fall to obtain bookings in fourth and
first quarters with promotions and meeting planners.
Point B presented the 2014 Media Strategies for a budgeted amount set at $170,000. They
discussed changing up some of the packages in the leisure market making some of the packages
run a little longer, use ad-ready on-line displays, possibly buy banner advertising through
thousands of websites and target people by their behavior and geography including mobile sites.
Point B made several suggestions on large companies to market. Locate a media life with a polo
niche market. Market hat clubs, horse organizations. Point B will do a little research on areas to

market.
2014 BUDGET DISCUSSION - Discussion ensued regarding a contingency fund being added to
the budget. It is recommended that 5%be built into the budget for a contingency fund.
Consensus of the Committee members present is to move forward with the $170,000 Point B
marketing plan.
OTHER BUSINESS—None at this time.
