Direction of Sports Core Advisory Committee
Angie Lopez asks Laure Kosey of the Park District to address the committee. She begins with
saying that things will be run as they have in the past. They will be raising membership prices
by $50 for every membership type and lowering the early bird discount to $75 & $50 for
seniors. There will be no daily admission allowed. They will be open until 8:00, unless there
is no one there at 7:00. Swim team will stay the same. There will still be a free guest day. A
nanny pass will cost $100. There will be online registration or they need to go to the Park
District. Grandchildren can only be on the membership if they live in the household. There
are plans to do camps at the B&T this summer. They are negotiating to bring Jim Lezatte
back and are working on programming. Laure stated that if the Park District does net a profit
25%will go back into the B&T. First project would be the roof on the tennis shack. Mike
Stevens shares what he has heard regarding Jim Lezatte's contract; Laure assures him that
Jim will most definitely be getting paid. There is talk about tennis lesson and swim lesson
times. The B&T would be open on holidays, including Labor Day. Member events are
planned for this summer. The conversation turns to watercraft for the pond. Laure touched on
the water classes that will be offered. Conversation continued regarding people who came for
the classes who weren't members and stayed for the day at the B&T. Gopal voiced his desire
for the SCA Committee to keep meeting and share with the Park District. Conversation
ensued regarding whether the park district would want committee input, Ms. Kosey stated
that she is glad to hear from members but does not want involvement from the committee.
Laure Kosey leaves the meeting 7:20.
President Lalmalani speaks of his desire to keep the Sports Core Advisory committee going.
Committee members rebut him say that the Park District doesn't want them. He tries to
convince them that their efforts are important. Melissa Martin tries to explain again that the
Park District does not want Village involvement, and for committee members to volunteer
their time for something that is not going to matter is not something she is interested in.
Committee members voice there disproval on how the Village handled the Park District
agreement with regard to the committee and the lack of respect for their time and efforts.
Angie conveyed her opinion that it is now up to the board to monitor, report on and take stock
in the Sports Core. The committee is finished. Conversations continue with board and
committee disagreeing. Conversation turns to financials, the committee not getting clear
financial statements, committee not getting a copy of the agreement, committee not having
any input on the Park District decision. Melissa speaks of the financial reports and the
differences between them. Allocation of expenses is touched upon, making the areas of the
Sports Core look less profitable. Angie stated her assertion that she will not stay on the
committee. Future meetings and the direction of the committee are discussed. John Baar
makes a plea for the Village to continue to invest in the Sports Core, to spend money on this
amenity. Gopal promises that the committee will get everything they want from the finance
department.
