Minutes - 05/14/2020 - Hotel Convention and Visitors Committee CALL TO ORDER The Regular Meeting of the Oak Brook Hotel, Convention & Visitors Committee of the Village of Oak Brook was held via Zoom on May 14, 2020 and called to order by Norm Canfield at ROLL CALL PRESENT: Norm Canfield, David Carlin, Kathy Dwyer, Mort Kouklan, Lee Hoener, Nicole Patterson ABSENT: Iftikharu Abbasy, Melanie Bradshaw, Tim Geiges, Neville Campbell, Dick Turner ALSO IN ATTENDANCE: Rick Ginex, Village Manager, Connie Reid, Executive Assistant, Beth Marchetti, DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau, Rob Grusin, Point B and Stephanie Fallara, Point B. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. Norm Canfield motioned to approve the minutes from the October 10, 2019 Meeting. Seconded by Lee Hoener. Voice Vote. Motion Carried UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Ratification of Release of Funds to the DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau – 2020 First Quarter Hotel Tax Receipts - $17,264.39. Norm Canfield motioned to approve the release of funds. Seconded by David Carlin. Voice Vote. Motion Carried NEW BUSINESS A. Hotel Status for Re-Opening Lodge suspended service March 25, looking to reopen July 10th. Marriott is open, running at 2% occupancy. Le Meridien is open at about 5% occupancy. Hyatt House is open at about 25% occupancy. The Drake suspended operations on March 18th, they may reopen on June 15th. Doubletree is open. Conversation shifts to event placement, many weddings are being pushed to 2021. Beth shares the status on some of the area hotels. B. Point B and DCVB Funding. • Ramifications for stopping payment. Norm Canfield gives some background on the Village Board’s decision to cut funding to the Hotels and the DCVB. Rob Grusin of Point B shares their Marketing In and Out of Quarantine presentation. Rob explaines the campaigns that were in force before the onset of COVID-19. He highlights the areas where they have cut the budget and media cancelations starting in mid March, including Point B fees. He talks about what is being done now and what will be done coming out of quarantine and the potential travel trends. Discussion continues regarding market trends going forward. A conversation starts regarding the dynamics of the DCVB payments and information to be included in the memo that Rick will compose to be presented to the Board. Rob Grusin speaks of services that have already been rendered. MINUTES OF THE MAY 14, 2020 MEETING OF THE OAK BROOK HOTEL, CONVENTION AND VISITORS COMMITTEE OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK APPROVED AS WRITTEN ON JUNE 11, 2020 Norm Canfield makes a motion is made to adopt a revised marketing schedule and calendar proposed by Point B comencing July 1, 2020 with adjusted marketing strategies, this could be altered based on Governor Pritzer’s guidelines or other information. Seconded by Mort Kouklan. Voice vote. Motion carries. DU PAGE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU UPDATE Beth Marchetti explains the position of the DCVB, the marketing plan and the lack of funding. She continues spotlighting the future events and the need to continue to advertise and market for the future. Beth goes over her network that is unique to DCVB and the benefits they provide. OTHER BUSINESS David Carlin speaks about the small business loans/grants available through DuPage County, the Breaking Bread program, and other Chamber resources.
