Friday, June 4 - Saturday, August 7 This summer, the Library invites all children and adults to participate in our Summer Reading Program: “Reading Colors Your World!” Fun prizes will be awarded to everyone who completes a reading log. All completed logs will be entered into additional drawings with a chance to win even bigger prizes! We hope to have all of Oak Brook reading this summer! Looking for a good read? Take a look at the Staff Picks blog on the Library’s website. Each month members of the staff review items from the collection. A display of staff picks can be found across from the Circulation Desk. Adult Programming It's Growing Season! DIY Seed Growing Kit Thursday, June 10 It's summer and everything in the garden is growing and blooming! Add some beautiful flowers to your garden with this seed growing kit. Materials are available for same day pick-up. Supplies are limited. Beginning Tuesday, June 1, the Library returns to normal hours. Explore More Illinois The Library is excited to offer Oak Brook Library cardholders discounts to more local attractions through Explore More Illinois. Among the offerings is half-off admission to Oak Brook’s own Lizzadro Museum. Passes can be printed from home from the link on the Library’s website. This new service is in addition to the Museum Adventure Pass. Children’s Programs Colorful Sand Art Fun: In-Person Outdoor Program Saturday, June 5 10 – 10:45 am 11 – 11:45 am 12 – 12:45 pm Friends Meeting Room Courtyard Registration is required. Young and old can enjoy layering beautiful colored sand designs into uniquely shaped bottles/containers of your choice! We will be holding this socially distanced program in the courtyard outside the Friends Meeting Room with three different sign-up times, weather pending. Rain date to take place the following week, Saturday, June 12 at the same times. Go to the Library’s website to register or call 630-368-7733. All ages Dan Gogh’s Magical Color Zoo Virtual Show (OBPL YouTube) Monday, June 7 Dan Gogh’s Magical Color Zoo has a collection of animals that explode with COLOR. There is only one problem: somebody stole the Primary Stones which give the zoo its color power! How will the color return to our animal friends? Join the adventure as we rescue each stone and discover three concepts of color: variety, harmony, and mood. This fun show is complete with magic, comedy, and puppets and is sure to entertain your family! Be sure to enjoy this show which premieres June 7 on the Library’s YouTube channel. All Ages Lady Bug, Lady Bug! Youth Pick Up Craft Wednesday, June 9 Looking for something to do? Stop by the Library for one of our fun crafts! They are available on a first come, first served basis. Supplies are limited, so don’t wait! All Ages Down in the Deep Blue Sea Virtual Storytime & Craft with Miss Theresa Monday, June 14 Miss Theresa will be taking you into the depths of the ocean to meet many of the creatures that live there. Be sure to join her for stories, songs, finger-plays, flannel board activities, and a cool craft. A Take & Make craft will be available on June 14 on a first come, first served basis. Ages 2 & Up Planting a Wildflower Garden with Miss Kristyn: In-Person Outdoor Program Tuesday, June 15 3, 3:30 or 4 pm Registration is required. Miss Kristyn is looking forward to creating a library garden to attract butterflies and hummingbirds! Join her for an outdoor program where you’ll spread seeds that will bloom into colorful wildflowers. Then plant a flower in a pot to take home! This is a family program- we encourage children of all ages to participate but ask guardians to stay with kids 6 and under. Registration required. Please sign up for only one time slot per family. All ages Famous Artist: Henri Matisse Virtual Storytime & Craft with Miss Brigitte Monday, June 21 Join Miss Brigitte on our YouTube channel as she learns all about famous artist Henri Matisse. She will read a few books about his life & then do a craft based on some of his most famous work. A Take & Make craft will be available on June 21 on a first come, first served basis. All Ages Firework Art: Virtual Craft with Miss Margaux Monday, June 28 Nothing says Fourth of July like Fireworks and Miss Margaux is here to guide us through making a fun firework-themed craft using cupcake liners.
