Adult Programming Dog Behavior Class with DuPage County Animal Services Tuesday, August 17 @ 6 pm They’re our best friends, but there’s a lot we don’t understand about dogs. Perhaps you welcomed a "pandemic puppy" into your family and you would like to learn more about how to live with your new family member. Join Laura Winnie, Education and Community Engagement Coordinator from DuPage County Animal Services to learn about common dog behaviors, the natural instincts behind them and how to manage those behaviors that aren’t so fun to live with. Registration is required. Library Scavenger Hunt Thursday, August 19 Get ready for fall with a Scavenger Hunt! Explore online resources from the Library’s website or pop in and find out what the Library has to offer. Scavenger Hunt cards highlight rainy day and outdoor activities. Scavenger Hunt cards will be available on August 19. Bring your completed card to the Reference Desk by September 16 for your choice of prizes! Looking for a good read? Take a look at the Staff Picks blog on the Library’s website. Each month members of the staff review items from the collection. A display of staff picks can be found across from the Circulation Desk. Movie Matinee Monday, August 30 @ 1 pm The War With Grandpa National Night Out 2021 Oak Brook Park District Central Park Tuesday, August 3 @ 5 - 8 pm The Oak Brook Police Department, Oak Brook Park District and Hinsdale Police Department are teaming up to bring residents a free fun-filled evening to celebrate with neighbors in the community. Please stop by the Oak Brook Pubic Library’s table at this event for an exciting color wheel game with prizes, Library info, and, of course, some Library swag! Children’s Programs Outdoor Music with Miss Brenna: Music Together® Mondays, August 2 & 16 10-10:30 am or 10:45-11:15 am Ages 0-5 Bring your own blanket and enjoy this outdoor family music class with Miss Brenna from Music Together® of Oak Brook & Elmhurst and Mattix Music Studio. We will provide instruments, though you may bring your own if you prefer. Register online for each individual class separately. We will have two of the same class on each day. In case of rain, the class will meet via Zoom. Outdoor Music with Miss Brenna: Rhythm Kids® Mondays, August 2 & 16 11:30 am-12 pm Ages 4-8 Bring your own blanket and enjoy this rhythm-centered outdoor music class with Miss Brenna from Music Together® of Oak Brook & Elmhurst and Mattix Music Studio. We will provide djembe drums for each registered family group. We are asking that you register for each individual class separately. In case of rain, the class will meet over Zoom. Virtual Storytime & Craft with Miss Kristyn Monday, August 9, 2021 Ages 4 & up Late summer calls for a camping trip! Join Miss Kristyn virtually as she packs up her camping gear (books!) and heads to the great outdoors. Be prepared to make a fun camping craft. The Take & Make craft will be available the day the program airs on the Library’s YouTube channel on a first come, first served basis. Dan Gogh’s Drawing Workshop # 3: Drawing Jungle Animals Virtual Workshop Tuesday, August 10 Ages 6-10 This workshop will demonstrate how to draw animals that live in the jungle. Dan Gogh will show how to add color to one of the animals. Visit the Library’s website under Virtual Programming for the link. Virtual Storytime with Miss Theresa Monday, August 23 Ages 2 & up Join Miss Theresa as she talks about the many things in this world that are the color orange! She will share stories, songs, finger-plays, flannel board activities and a cool craft. A Take & Make craft will be available the day the program airs on the Library’s YouTube channel on a first come, first served basis. Looking for the Library’s YouTube page? Scan this QR code with your smartphone. Kids enjoyed planting a wildflower garden during the Library’s first in-person program of the year. They even got to take a flower pot home!
