HomeMy WebLinkAbout10.12.21 - Philippines Independence Proclamation PROCLAMATION Whereas, The Philippines, consisting of more than 7,000 separate islands in the western Pacific, declared independence from Spanish rule over 120 years ago; and Whereas, the Filipino flag was unfurled for the first time on June 12th1 1898; and Whereas, under the leadership of the Americans in 1902, the Philippines was made a commonwealth; and Whereas, in 1946 the Philippines gained full independence; and Whereas, on their independence day the sacrifices of the national heroes are remembered, the country's sovereignty is appreciated and the culture and tradition of its people is celebrated; and Whereas, The Philippine Independence Week Committee is also recognizing their 45th anniversary; and Whereas, we extend our warmest wishes to the people of the Philippines, to the Filipino American Community here in the United States and especially to our residents of Philippine heritage living in the Village of Oak Brook and the surrounding communities; and Now, Therefore, I, Gopal G. Lalmalani, by virtue of the authority vested in me as President of the Village of Oak Brook, do hereby congratulate all the people of Filipino origin on the Anniversary of their Independence and proclaim October 22nd 2021 as "Philippine Independence Day" in the Village of Oak Brook.
