SUBJECT: Award of Contract—Bath&Tennis Club High Dive Stand Repair Project
FROM: Rick Valent, Director of Public Works l`
BUDGET SOURCE/BUDGET IMPACT: $20,000.00 is included in the Sports Core
Fund, Swimming Operations(812-90400 in the 2022 Budget
RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move that the Village Board award a contract to
Schaefges Brothers, Inc., Wheeling, Illinois, in the amount of$19,750.00, for the Bath&
Tennis Club High Dive Stand Repair Project. Additionally, I move that the Village Board
approve Resolution R-1972.
Background/History:
Over the course of the last few years staff has successfully maintained and repaired the
high dive pool stand structure. The high dive pool has three, one high and two equally
lower, diving boards for use.Unfortunately, this past season the high dive board was unable
to open due to safety concerns. Upon further inspection, staff found numerous anchoring
points in the concrete failing beyond immediate repair. Already being concerned with the
pool opening on schedule, the decision was made to terminate use and have professionals
in the industry further evaluate the structure altogether after the season.
Staff contacted a number of concrete specialists and pool construction companies and
Schaefges Brothers, Inc. was the only one that continued to pursue our repair and
replacement options. They submitted three options to the Village for consideration. The
options range from replacing all three diving board structures, estimated at over
$100,000.00 to simply repairing the anchoring points of the high dive for$19,750.00.After
much discussion, performing this repair will achieve the goal for next season while
bringing a financial savings to the Sports Core Fund.

This approval request would traditionally occur in the year services are rendered, however
the vendor informed staff that in order to be placed on their spring schedule and be assured
of meeting the pool opening deadline, the sooner than later we agree to their proposal
would ensure meeting that deadline. Even though award of the contract is in 2021, any and
all expenditures will be applied to the 2022 budget.
Recommendation:
That the Village Board award a contract to Schaefges Brothers, Inc., Wheeling, Illinois, in
the amount of$19,750.00, for the Bath & Tennis Club High Dive Stand Repair Project.
Additionally, I move that the Village Board approve Resolution R-1972.
