Village of Oak Brook Officials
Set New Direction for Library
Oak Brook, Illinois (June 3,2009,3:30 PNI) —After a review of the library's budget, the current Village
Board has determined that library hours and services will not be reduced as had been directed by the
previous Village Board. In March, the previous Village Board had proposed to close the library every
Sunday and two mornings during the week in addition to cutting back other services.
"Our #1 priority is maintaining Library hours and services for the benefit of our residents," stated Village
President John W. Craig. As a result the Village Manager has asked the Library Director to develop a plan
to reduce costs without reducing services. In an effort to assist the Library Director in meeting this goal, the
village is researching the use of outside consultants specializing in Library operations. "The Library is a
wonderful place for our Village. We want to encourage greater use of the Oak Brook Library and will be
implementing an Internship Program as well as a Volunteer Program within the next 30 days," stated
Village Trustee Moin Saiyed, Trustee liaison to the Library.
The Village Board will continue to focus on reducing the village's deficit budget throughout all departments
while maintaining and improving village services.
