Village of Oak Brook Announces Restructuring and Workforce
Reductions at the Oak Brook Public Library
Oak Brook, Illinois ( September 15, 2009, 4:30 PM): In light of the Village’s challenging financial condition and
with the recommendation of the recent Library Associates Companies staffing and services report, the Village of
Oak Brook today announced several changes in its Library Department, including the reorganization of its staff.
The changes were done mainly through a reduction in force, with the overall restructuring eliminating three full-
time and two part-time positions.
David Niemeyer, Village Manager of Oak Brook, commented, “This reduction was difficult because it affects
several of our talented and hardworking employees. However, it was necessary as the Village of Oak
Brook has not been immune to the effects of the economy and headcount-related expenses needed to be
reduced. These reductions are in addition to the other recent cost-cutting initiatives in the workforce that
will save the Village more than $1.5 million per year.”
As part of the restructuring that was announced, Sue Madorin was named Acting Library Director effective
September 16, 2009, temporarily replacing former Library Director, Meg Klinkow-Hartman. Sue has been
the Head of the Youth Services since 1995 and previously served as the Acting Library Director in 2003-04.
“Although there were some significant changes just made, residents of Oak Brook will continue to have the
high-quality library services they have come to expect. There will be some bumps along the way as the
Village restructures the Library over the next several months, but I am confident that after this transition we
will emerge as a healthy and streamlined public library, said Niemeyer.
