Village Trustee travels to Springfield to advocate for Oak Brook
Oak Brook, Illinois ( March 30, 2010) — Trustee Mark Moy traveled to Springfield March 16-17
along with other DuPage County municipal representatives during the DuPage Mayors and Managers
Conference (DMMC) annual lobbying day. Moy met with the Village's lobbyist, Michael Thompson,
who updated him on how he is working on Oak Brook issues in Springfield.
Maintaining municipal revenues and controlling soaring public safety pension costs were two of the
major issues on the minds of municipal leaders. Governor Quinn's proposal to withhold 30% of the
income tax from municipalities would cost the Village over $200,000 per year. Moy also discussed
his concerns with rising public safety pension's costs which will cost Oak Brook over $1.8 million this
year. "Oak Brook, like other municipalities, has had to make major budget cuts due to shrinking
revenues and rising pension costs," Moy stated. "The Village has cut the equivalent of almost 15% of
its workforce, but has still balanced its 2010 budget. However, the proposal to cut income tax revenues
will hurt our budget."
About the Village of Oak Brook:
Founded in 1958, the Village of Oak Brook is located 20 miles west of downtown Chicago and is in proximity
to the junction of Interstates 88, 294, and 290. The Village consists mostly of residential subdivisions, with the
exception of the Oakbrook Center shopping mall, other retail and office properties along 22nd Street and
Interstate 88. Oak Brook is the home of many corporate offices, most notably, the world headquarters of
McDonald's Corporation and the service club organization Lions Clubs International. Oak Brook is also
known for being one of the few municipalities in the Chicago area that do not levy a property tax on residents
or businesses.
