Sunday is Argentina Polo Day
Oak Brook, Illinois – September 21, 2013: The Village of Oak Brook is pleased to announce with a
special sponsorship with the Argentina American Midwest Chamber of Commerce, that Sunday’s
premiere Polo Match at 3:30 p.m. will bring together Argentina´s Pampa and “Estancias” tradition as
part of Argentina Polo Day in Oak Brook on Sunday, September 22nd.
The polo matches will take place at the Oak Brook Polo Club Fields, located at 700 Oak Brook Road, Oak
Brook, IL. It will be an exciting recreation of Argentina’s best known trademarks: polo, food, and of
course wine. The 1:00 p.m. match will kick off with Pinstripes versus DoubleTree. The highly anticipated
match at 3:30 p.m. will be between the Argentine Polo Team versus the Wells Fargo Polo Team. During
the 3:30 p.m. match, local Argentine and American players will represent the respective teams.
Members of the Argentine team consist of players who have participated in tournaments and trained in
Argentina.
Argentina Polo Day seeks to promote Argentine culture, cuisine, and tourism as a means of fostering the
friendly relationship between Argentina and the United States. Empanada de Carne, Choripan, and
Alfajor de Mainzena, as well as Melbec wines from Argentina will be available for purchase. Tourism
information will also be available at the match.
Since the first Polo match took place in Argentina in 1875, the “sport of kings” has become an important
component of the Argentine Culture as well as a signature of the country. The Argentine National Team
has won many international tournaments and awards, including the World Polo Championship in 1987,
1992, 1998 and 2011.
Tickets are valid for both the 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. matches and children 12 and under are free for
general admission. General admission tickets are $30 at the event, $25 before; VIP tickets are $125.

Since its inception in 1922, during the "golden age" of polo, world-class teams have come almost
every summer to play on the immaculately groomed fields of the Oak Brook Polo Grounds. Founded
by Paul Butler, patriarch of the Village of Oak Brook, the original Oak Brook Polo Club became the
largest polo facility in the country by 1953. The U.S. Open (Polo), the premier polo tournament in
the country, was played at Oak Brook for 25 years, from 1954 to 1978, the longest it was ever
