Oak Brook Police Participate in Thanksgiving Enforcement
Campaign
Oalc Brook,lL November 2014. The Oak Brook Police Department is reminding motorists
to fasten their seat belts and drive sober over the Thanksgiving holiday or run the risk of
receiving a ticket.
Oak Brook Police will join the Illinois Depazhnent of Transportation (TOOT}, the Illinois State
Police (ISP) and local law enforcement agencies across the state to save more lives by strongly
enforcing seat belt and impaired driving laws in a statewide enforcement effort. This campaign
begins November 17, 2014 and ends November 30, 2014.
Illinois has a 94.1% daytime seatbelt. usage rate. However, far too many drivers and passengers
still do not buckle up — especially at night. During the 2013 Thanksgiving holiday weekend in
Illinois, 7 people lost their lives (3 of those deaths involved alcohol) and 723 motorists were
injured in motor vehicle crashes. Wearing your seat belt is your best defense against an impaired
driver.
The law enforcement crackdown is funded by federal haffic safety funds tluough IDOT's
Division of Traffic Safety. For more information out this campaign, please visit
