There is still time to sign up for Summer Reading. Read or listen to five books, turn in your completed reading log and earn Library swag! You will also be entered into a drawing for a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card, generously donated by the Friends of the Library. Visit the Reference Desk to pick up a reading log or print one at home from the Library’s website. All logs must be turned in by August 6. Hollywood Goes to the Beach! Wednesday, July 20 at 7 pm Taking full advantage of sunny California's climate, classic Hollywood films frequently featured beach sequences and sun-drenched stars. Join Film Historian Dr. Annette Bochenek as she explores classic Hollywood stars and their ties to beach films, the beach movies' influence on fashion, and memorable beach movie moments. The program will include a multimedia presentation consisting of photos, video clips, and captivating stories. Legends of Surf Music Thursday, August 11 at 7 pm Join us for a summertime music concert! Head back to the early 1960's when the surf scene emerged in southern California, as guitarist Randy Walker performs stories and covers songs by the Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, The Surfaris, Dick Dale and the Deltones and more! Movie Matinee Returns August 1 @ 1 pm Beacon Book Club We are excited to invite you to our new adult book discussion group. We hope you can join us for a lively hour-long discussion on a variety of books that will meet every 4th Wednesday at 7 pm or the 4th Thursday at 10 am. Bring your cup of coffee and ideas, we can’t wait to see you! July 27 at 7 pm OR July 28 at 10 am This month’s book is The Lions of Fifth Avenue by Fiona Davis. Children’s Programs Summer Reading Now Through August 6 This summer’s theme is Read Beyond the Beaten Path. All ages can join the fun and win prizes with community-sponsored incentives for reading! Reading logs will be available to print from the Library’s website or pick up in person any time after the program begins. Storytimes Registration required and masks encouraged. Arabic Storytimes Presented by The Language Labs Tuesdays, July 5, 12 & 19 @ 10:30 am Come join Ms. Maryam from The Language Labs while she engages us in the beautiful Arabic language. She will teach a few Arabic words, phrases, and catchy songs! Following the story, there will be a fun Arabic-themed craft! Ages 2 & up Toddling 2s & 3s Storytime with Miss Theresa Thursdays, July 7, 14 & 21 @ 10:30-11 am This is a perfect program to introduce little ones to the Library. We’ll enjoy some good books, sing songs, dance, do fingerplays & more! We’ll also make a craft which is related to the theme of the day. A parent or caregiver must stay with children during the program. Ages 2-3 Camp Maker Programs Registration required and masks encouraged. Camp-Themed Luminary Thursday, July 14 @ 4 pm Participants will create a cool luminary which will include a battery-operated candle. Ages 6 & up Yarn Basket Weaving Thursday, July 28 @ 4 pm Miss Brigitte will guide participants in making their very own nest-like bowl. Saturday Morning Chess Club Saturdays, July 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 @ 10-11:30 am This club is open to players who already have an understanding of the game. Percy Jackson Book Club Tuesday, July 19 @ 4 pm Miss Nikki leads this book club focusing on books 1-3 in the Percy Jackson series. This month it’s Book 2, The Sea of Monsters. Tie Dye Party with Miss Margaux Wednesday, July 20 @ 10:30 am Join us for a celebration of everyone’s favorite summer pattern: Tie Dye! We will provide a canvas bag plus dye and you can bring an item of your choice to dye. Dress for mess! Ages 4 & up Magic Show with Gary Kantor Saturday, July 23 @ 1:15 pm Join Gary Kantor as he presents a thrilling magic show packed with laughs and quality entertainment. Gary’s shows have tons of audience participation and comedy. Ideal for the entire family. All Ages. Ages 6 & up Read to a Dog Thursday, July 21 @ 7-8 pm Wednesday, July 27 @ 3-4 pm The Hinsdale Humane Society’s READ program brings us teams of trained owners and their Pet Partners – registered dogs to work with children to improve reading skills. This is an opportunity for children to practice their reading skills with the best nonjudgmental listener of all! Limit one READ session per reader.
