Can You Afford to Retire? Thursday, November 10 @ 7 pm This program will help attendees evaluate their readiness for retirement with several self-evaluation exercises. There are 10 Critical Questions that every retiree must answer before embarking on a successful retirement. The instructor from Bentron Financial Group will help attendees conduct an estate analysis complete with a net worth statement. Breaking The Silence Screening Friday, November 11 @ 2 pm Join one-time Oak Brook resident, filmmaker and author Dara Sanandaji for the screening of his film Breaking The Silence. This award winning documentary details Sanandaji’s journey with mental illness and the power of the mind and its ability to break and heal. After the film, Sanandaji will answer audience questions and be available to sell and sign his book of the same title. How to Avoid Identity Theft and Scams Wednesday, November 16 @ 7 pm The IRS calls saying you owe taxes; you get emails offering Coronavirus cures; or you get a text from a grandchild who is trapped and needs money. These are all scams that are being run by criminals to prey upon people of all ages. Presenter Cari Poweziak has been trained by the Federal Trade Commission and will help you learn how to spot a scam and what to do to avoid being scammed. Beacon Book Club The Beacon Book Club is taking a break in November. Our December book is Skipping Christmas by John Grisham. If you’d like to watch the movie adaption of the book, check out Christmas with the Kranks. Copies of the book and the movie will be available at the Circulation Desk. Movie Matinee Monday, Nov. 7 @ 1 pm Belfast Holiday Hours Close @ 5 pm - November 23 Closed - November 24 & 25 Storytimes Registration required and masks encouraged. Baby Storytime with Miss Margaux Wednesdays, November 2, 9, 16 & 30 @ 10:30 am Read stories & sing songs with Miss Margaux in this early literacy storytime. Classic rhymes, fingerplays, songs & stories will be used in class. One caregiver to one child is encouraged for this class. Ages 6 months - 2 years Afterschool Storytime with Miss Theresa Wednesdays, November 2, 9, 16 & 30 @ 4:30 pm Children attend this program independently. They will wiggle and giggle while they interact with books, songs and a craft. Ages 4-7 Toddling 2s & 3s Storytime with Miss Theresa Thursdays, November 3, 10 & 17 @ 10:30 am This is a perfect program to introduce little ones to the library. We'll enjoy some good books, sing songs, dance, do fingerplays, and more! We'll also make a craft related to the theme of the day. A caregiver must stay with each child during the program. Ages 2-3 Weekly Programs Registration required and masks encouraged. Crafternoons with Miss Brigitte Thursdays, Nov. 3, 10 & 17 @ 4:30 pm Join Miss Brigitte’s craft club! Every week we will do a new craft based on an artist or fall theme! There is a strict age requirement as some crafts require advanced fine motor skills. Ages 8-12 Saturday Morning Chess Club Saturdays, November 5, 19 & 26 @ 10-11:30 am (No program on November 12) This club is open to players who already have an understanding of the game. Ages 6 & up Special Programs Registration required and masks encouraged. Adventure Tales Writing Workshop Saturday, November 5 @ 1 pm Adventure Tales is a short story writing series where kids explore writing and illustration skills with their parents. These group sessions are led by experienced short story writers and will teach the basics of how to write and illustrate your own short story. This month’s theme is Turkey Tales. Ages 7-11 (with adult). Space is very limited! Registration by phone only. Call the Youth Services Desk 630-368-7733. Weekend Stuffed Animal Sleepover Saturday, November 12 @ 3:30 pm Drop off your favorite stuffed animal for a sleepover at the Library! Your stuffie is in for a weekend of fun! We will take pictures of your BFF participating in some exciting library activities and post them online & print one for you to take home. Pick up your stuffed animal on Monday or later! **This sleepover is for stuffed animals ONLY.** Toddler Dance Party Saturday, November 19 @ 1:30 pm Let’s have a dance party! Dance, sing, play instruments, & have fun in this interactive play time with friends. Ages 2-5 Youth Pickup Crafts Stop by and pick up a fun craft to make at home! Friday, November 4 - Leaf Sweeper Friday, November 18 - Thanksgiving Turkey Wind Sock Holiday Lights Recycling November 21 - January 13 You can again recycle your broken or unwanted lights at the Library through our partnership with Elgin Recycling! Look for the bin in the staff parking lot (across from the book returns). Since the box is outside, you can drop off any time that is convenient for you. Only holiday lights are accepted. Please do not include other holiday decorations!
