In the spring of 2016, through a genealogy website to which she had whimsically submitted her DNA for analysis, Dani Shapiro received the stunning news that her father was not her biological father. This is her story. Save the Date - Author Loretta Nyhan will be joining the Beacon Book Club for a discussion of her book The New Person on April 27 at 10 am. Origami Boxes - Adult Art Class Monday, February 27 @ 7 pm Learn how to fold Japanese style origami paper into beautiful gift boxes. They will wiggle and giggle while they interact with books, songs and a craft. Ages 4-7 Toddling 2s & 3s Storytime with Miss Theresa Thursday, Feb. 2, 9, 16 & 23 @ 10:30 am This is a perfect program to introduce little ones to the library. We'll enjoy some good books, sing songs, dance, do fingerplays, and more! We'll also make a craft related to the theme of the day. A caregiver must stay with each child during the program. Ages 2-3 Weekly Programs Registration required and masks encouraged. Crafternoons with Miss Brigitte Thursdays, Feb. 9, 16 & 23 @ 4:30 pm Join Miss Brigitte’s craft club! Every week we will do a new craft based on an artist or theme! There is a strict age requirement as some crafts require advanced fine motor skills. Ages 8-12 Saturday Morning Chess Club Saturdays, Feb. 4, 11, 18 & 25 @ 10-11:30 am This club is open to players who already have an understanding of the game. It is a club, not a team, so players are welcome to join us to improve their game and play. Balloon Animal Workshop with Gary Kantor Saturday, February 11 @ 1:15 pm Did you ever want to learn how to make those cool balloon animals that you see at parties? Well now you can. Gary Kantor will teach children the techniques needed to take plain balloons and transform them into fascinating balloon Animals. At the end of the class, children will get to take home all of the things that they made. This class isn't just for the kids. Parents are more than welcome to join their children in the class. Todd Downing: Tall Tales & Silly Songs Tuesday, February 28 @ 10:30am Todd Downing has been entertaining and educating kids for many years. With his guitar, puppets and unexpected quips, he keeps audiences surprised and delighted. Covering a wide range of topics, Todd has kids singing, dancing and jumping to some of the wittiest and entertaining tunes ever heard! Ages 2-8 Youth Pickup Crafts Stop by and pick up a fun craft to make at home! Supplies limited - first come, first served. Friday, February 10 - Valentine’s Day Friday, February 24 - Winter Penguin Winter Reading Program Step Right Up & Read a Book! through Saturday, March 4 It’s not too late! Children of all ages are invited to take part in the program. Reading logs are available in the Library or may be printed from our website. All those who complete their logs will receive a prize & be entered into a drawing to win a grand prize. Oak Brook Park District at the Library A representative of the Oak Brook Park District will be at the Library every first Monday of the month in 2023 from 3 pm through 4 pm to answer questions.
