Summer Reading Program June 10 – August 12 Pick up your reading log and a tasty treat to kick off the summer! Read or listen to 5 books and write a brief review to share with others. Complete your log for a prize and to enter a drawing for gift cards. Illinois Watercolor Society Meeting & Artist Demonstration Saturday, June 3 @ 2 pm The Illinois Watercolor Society meeting and artist demonstration featuring artist Thomas Trausch. Mini Art Show: Find Your Voice through Art Monday, June 5 @ 7 pm Adults are invited to find their inner artist! We will supply the 3x3 canvas & acrylic paint and you supply your creativity. Artwork will be displayed in the Library during the Summer Reading program and returned at the end. If you can't make the program, we will have some kits available to pick up. *Supplies are limited!* A Visit with Jane Austen Saturday, June 10 @ 2 pm Jane Austen visits you from the autumn of 1815. Her first three novels, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice and Mansfield Park are published, and Emma is complete. Drawing from her letters and novels, this performance by Debra Miller delves into the personal life of one of the most beloved and intriguing novelists of the 19th century. There’s a wonderful variety of books on many topics including some great Father’s Day gifts. Summer Reading Saturday, June 10 - Saturday, August 12 Read as much as you can to earn prizes! This year’s theme reminds you to Find Your Voice! Reading logs will be available to print from our website or to pick up at the Library starting June 10. Be sure to get your reading log & get started! Ages 2 & up. Storytimes Registration required Family Pajama Night Storytime with Miss Irene Mondays, June 12 and 26 @ 6:30 - 7 pm We will read gentle stories as we unwind from our busy summer day. Each session will end with a calming meditation. Feel free to wear your pajamas & bring slippers, a blankie and/or a mat to lay on during the meditation. Try not to fall asleep! All ages. Toddling 2s & 3s Storytime with Miss Theresa Thursdays, June 15 & 29 @ 10:30 - 11 am This is the perfect program to introduce little ones to the library. We will read books, sing songs, dance, do fingerplays and more! We will also make a craft related to the theme of the day! A parent or caregiver must stay with children during this program. Ages 2-3. Weekly Programs Registration required Thursday Evening Chess Club Thursdays, June 8, 15, 22 & 29 @ 6-8 pm This club is open to players who already have an understanding of the game. It is a club, not a team, so players are welcome to join us to improve their game and play. All ages. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library Monthly Programs Registration required Graphic Novel Book Club: City of Dragons Tuesday, June 27 @ 4 pm Join Miss Dominique’s Graphic Novel Book Club for great graphic novels, good discussions and snacks! The first book is The Awakening Storm: City of Dragons by Jaimal Yogis. Copies will be available at the circulation desk one week before each session. All ages. Adventures in Writing - Historic Tales Saturday, June 3 @ 10 am Adventure Tales is a short story writing series where kids explore writing & illustration skills with their parents. These group sessions are led by experienced short story writers & will teach the basics of how to write & illustrate your own short story. To register call 630-368-7733. Ages 7-11 (with adult). Yarn Crafts Series with Miss Dominique Pom - Pom Pots Saturday, June 10 @ 11 am The first of this series will be making Pom Poms into ice cream cones or cacti. You choose! Each month will be a different yarn based craft. There is a strict age requirement as some crafts require advanced fine motor skills. Ages 8 & up. Special Programs Registration required Mini Art Show: Find Your Voice through Art! Painting Sessions (register for only 1 session): Wednesday, June 7 @ 6:30 - 7:30 pm or Wednesday, June 21 @ 2 - 3 pm or Wednesday, June 21 @ 6:30 - 7:30 pm Young patrons are welcome to find their inner artist! We will supply you with a 3x3 canvas & acrylic paint. Your creation will be displayed throughout July as part of our art show. All art pieces can be taken home after Monday, July 31. Supplies are limited. Reserve your painting time now! Ages 7 & up. Window Painting with Miss Brigitte Monday, June 12 @ 1 - 3 pm Space is extremely limited, however you can split a window with ONE friend. Designs must be consistent with the summer reading theme of FIND YOUR VOICE. All designs will be approved by Miss Brigitte before you begin painting, so come with ideas! This is not a drop in event; you will need the entire time to do this project. Dress for mess. Grades 6 & up. True Balance Karate Class Wednesday, June 14 @ 4 pm This is an introductory class to karate. Martial arts will teach you self-defense, focus, respect, concentration & more. Ages 6 & up. Family Tree of Life: 3D Paper Mache Project for Children & Their Families Saturday, June 24 Four time slots available: 10 - 10:40 am / 11 - 11:40 am / 12 - 12:40 pm / 1 - 1:40 pm Join artist Guillermo Rivera as he guides children & their adult(s) in creating their own family tree of life.
