Celebrate the Season! Holiday Sing-Along Sunday, December 3 @ 2 pm Take a break from the holiday stress and join Tom Malouf and his musical family members as they present: “Celebrate the Season.” It is a wonderfully energetic program that is fun, interactive, and will fill you with the holiday spirit. Come and spend an hour of the season singing, laughing, and remembering how this is a season of unity, love and joy. New Year, New You! Holiday Lights Recycling through January 19 You can recycle your broken or unwanted lights at the Library through our partnership with Elgin Recycling! Look for the bin in the staff parking lot (across from the book returns). Since the box is outside, you can drop off any time that is convenient for you. Only holiday lights are accepted. Please do not include other holiday decorations! Holiday Hours Closed December 24, 25 & 31 January 1, 2024 Storytimes Registration required Toddling 2s & 3s Storytime with Miss Theresa Tuesdays, December 5 & 19 @ 10:30 - 11 am This is the perfect program to introduce little ones to the library. We'll enjoy some good books, sing songs, dance, do fingerplays & more! We'll also make a craft related to the theme of the day. A caregiver must stay with each child during the program. Ages 2-3 Storybook STEAM with Miss Irene Mondays, December 4 & 18 @ 4:30 - 5:15 pm Join Miss Irene for stories & a S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art, math) related activity during each session. Please note our activities are more about the process & not the product. They might be made for display only or involve food. Dress for mess & to have fun! Children are expected to attend on their own. Ages 4-7 Weekly Programs Registration required Saturday Morning Chess Club December 2 & 30 @ 10 am - 12 pm This club is open to players who already have an understanding of the game. It is a club, not a team, so players are welcome to join us to improve their game. Grades K-8. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library Bimonthly Programs Registration required Lego Free-Build with Miss Dominique Tuesday, December 5 & 19 @ 4:30 - 5:30 pm Come join us for a Lego free build where you can let your imagination run wild! Finished projects will be displayed in the display case until the next session! Legos are provided. All Ages Crafternoons with Miss Brigitte Thursdays, December 7 & 14 @ 4:45 - 5:45 pm Join Miss Brigitte as she explores art! Each week we will create something based on an artist or winter theme. There is a strict age requirement for this program as crafts require advanced fine motor skills. Registration required. Dress for mess! Ages 8-12 Monthly Programs Registration required Adventures in Writing: Reverent Tales Saturday, December 16 @ 12:30 - 2:30pm Adventure Tales is a short story writing series where kids explore writing and illustration skills with their parents. These group sessions are led by experienced short story writers and will teach the basics of how to write and illustrate your own short story. Ages 7-11 (with adult) Special Programs Registration required Ornament-Making Workshop with Miss Brigitte Saturday, December 2 @ 1 pm Join us as we create a variety of ornaments! Space is limited. Grades K & up Youth Pickup Craft Stop by and pick up a fun craft to make at home! Supplies limited on a first come, first served basis. Saturday, December 16 - Handprint Grinch Puppet Teen Volunteer Program The Library offers volunteer opportunities to current 8th - 12th graders. Service hours are documented for extracurricular or scholastic obligations if needed. Duties include assisting library staff with pulling patron hold requests, sorting and shelving materials, and helping librarians with in-person children’s programming like story times or kids craft workshops. Applications are available on the Library’s website or in the Library. The fall session runs through January 8, 2024. The upcoming spring session runs from January 2024 through May 2024.
