FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Retail Theft at Oak Brook Golf Club
On May 11, 2024, at approximately 8:17am, the Oak Brook Police responded to the Oak Brook Golf Club for a
delayed Retail Theft. The responding officer began reviewing video surveillance from the Golf Club. The officer
located the M/W offender entering the Golf Pro shop at 3:36pm on 05/10/24 and selecting a Taylormade Stealth 2+
Driver golf club (valued at $629 USC). The offender then places the golf club near the front counter, makes a cash
transaction with the cashier for a range token, picks up the golf club and exits the store without paying for the golf
club.
Exterior surveillance cameras showed a 4-door gray/silver in color pickup truck enter the parking lot at 3:34 pm and
leave the camera view just prior to the offender entering the store. No other vehicles were observed entering the
parking lot at the time just prior to the offender entering the shop. The officer checked an automated license plate
reader system (LPR) at the Oak Brook Golf Club parking lot and discovered a matching pick-up truck entering the
parking lot at 3:34 pm. The vehicle is registered to Paul Schranz on a matching Toyota Tacoma. A driver’s license
image was obtained and resembled the same subject who took the merchandise. Just before the vehicle exited the
parking lot, it stopped in the parking lot and the driver exits the truck to place an unknown item into the bed of the
truck.
Detectives then proceeded to the registered address of the vehicle and served a search warrant. The offender Paul J
Schranz, 63, (d.o.b. 12/02/1960) of the 400 block of Chicago Ave, Clarendon Hills, was located and taken into
custody for the retail theft. The Toyota Tacoma was located in the garage of the residence with the Taylormade
Stealth 2+ driver and golf bag pushcart still in the bed of the truck.
Schranz was booked and processed by the Oak Brook Police Department and charged with one count of retail theft
(Class 3 felony) and released with a court date.
This is the second arrest for retail theft from the Oak Brook Golf Club in less than a week. "We want everyone to
enjoy the beautiful Oak Brook Golf Club but make no mistake, if you come here to commit a crime, we will fully
investigate the incident and you will be arrested and charged. I specifically want to thank Officer Kieca and
Detectives Kozlowski and Perez for their swift work on this case, taking the offender in custody and recovering the
stolen property only hours after the incident occurred. I also want to thank State's Attorney Bob Berlin and his team
for their assistance and guidance on this case," said Chief Strockis.
Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s
guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove
his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
