Community Engagement Committee

CALL TO ORDER
The February 22, 2024 meeting of the Committee Enhancement Committee was called to
order in the Upper Level Conference Room of the Butler Government Center at 6:39pm by
Chairman Kaarina Lebrun. Those present go around the table and introduce themselves.
ROLL CALL
Present: Kaarina Lebrun, Nomana Akhtar, Katie Donnelly, Jessica Rezk, Gabriela Wood and
Vince Bufalino (via Zoom – viewing only, not participating)
Absent: James Hung
In Attendance: Village Manager Greg Summers, Executive Assistant Connie Reid, Sports
Core Director Art Segura, Village President Larry Herman (via Zoom – viewing only, not
participating), Trustee Michael Manzo
PUBLIC COMMENTS
There were no public comments.
ACTIVE BUSINESS
A. Events
Chairperson Lebrun shared ideas for some of the events that the committee will be working on
beginning with a Pancake Breakfast in coordination with Police and Fire in May, dates and
logistics were discussed. It is decided that the first-choice date would be May 4th with a backup
date of May 18th in the Fire Bay, there will not be a charge for the event and volunteers from
the committee will be available for all aspects of the event.
Conversation shifts to events being held at the B&T, touching upon budget and B&T staff who
will be assisting. It is decided that Oak Brook Day should be held earlier in the season and
there should be multiple movie nights. VM Summers explains that the Village has hired a
Management Analyst who will be the committee’s contact at the Village. The Management
Analyst will then coordinate any Village involvement. SCD Segura shared that Fig Boz will
be hosting themed events throughout the season. Kaarina began a dialogue regarding Taste of
Oak Brook; she asked for ideas on how the committee could get involved to focus on the
community such as a battle of the bands. Pros and cons of an array of scenarios were discussed.
Kaarina invited everyone to visit the Historical Society and went on to say that this would be

the perfect place to host a welcome event for new Oak Brook residents. Many great
suggestions were discussed and possibilities were weighed.
VM Summers shared information regarding the innovations of the My Oak Brook App and the
upgrades to the website. They continued speaking about the calendar and how residents sign up
for notifications.
The committee touched upon welcome packets for new residents, the number of new residents,
and how to get the word out to residents.
The next meeting is March 21st, at 7:00pm.
