ACTIVE BUSINESS
B. Pancake Breakfast Takeaways
Chair Lebrun started by thanking the Fire Department and asked Chief Fleege for his
comments regarding the Pancake Breakfast, he said that it was well attended, crediting the
good weather and social media posts. He mentioned the need for a contingent plan in case of
bad weather and the possibility of being prepared with indoor activities. Kaarina stated that
there were around 200 sign-ins but believed that there were more attendees than that. The
logistics of moving the event inside and shifting the hours were discussed. Discussion ensued
regarding the food issues. Having signups or groups for the activities, using a PA system for
announcements, incorporating a Library component, pursuing sponsorships, or promotional
booths, having a “jaws of life” demonstration, and the date of May 18th 2025 were all
discussed. The volunteer QR code did not get a good response. Arranging for the fire
department to make the pancakes next year and activities for older kids are talked about.
MINUTES OF THE MAY 23, 2024
MEETING OF THE COMMUNITY
ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE OF THE
VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK APPROVED AS
WRITTEN ON JUNE 13, 2024
C. Events Update
SCD Segura shared the events being held at the Bath & Tennis Club, emphasizing the movie
nights, which will be open to all Oak Brook residents and not just B&T members. Movie night
logistics and volunteer opportunities are discussed.
VM Summers asked if there is a fall event planned. Kaarina Lebrun spoke about National
Night Out, where committee members will be volunteering, and the committee’s desire to have
a “Play Date” for families before it. After a lengthy discussion weighing the pros and cons, it is
decided not to hold the Play Date before NNO. Trustee Martin suggested doing a senior-
focused event, maybe music and martinis at the Golf Club on the patio. Chair Lebrun shared
that the committee is involved in the Celebration of International Cultures being held on
September 22nd. Conversation shifted to the CEC involvement in the Taste of Oak Brook, it
was decided that the committee would have representation at the Village tent. The committee
circled back to the Play Dates, it was decided to move them up and Jessica would plan and
organize them. Giuseppe shared his progress with the New Resident Packet, he explained the
new content that will be included, and the updates being made; he sent a rough draft to Vince
Bufalino who approved it. He then showed the newly designed logo to the committee and
asked for feedback. The committee asked for “Oak Brook” to be added to the logo. TOB swag
is discussed.
