Minutes - 05/23/2024 - Community Engagement Committee Community Engagement Committee Thursday, May 23, 2024 7:00 P.M. CALL TO ORDER The May 23, 2024 meeting of the Community Engagement Committee was called to order in the Upper Level Conference Room of the Butler Government Center at 7:12pm by Chairperson Kaarina Lebrun. ROLL CALL Present: Kaarina Lebrun, Nomana Akhtar, Jessica Rezk, and Gabriela Wood Absent: James Hung, Vince Bufalino, and Katie Donnelly In Attendance: Village Manager Greg Summers, Executive Assistant Connie Reid, Sports Core Director Art Segura, Management Analyst Giuseppe Scalera, Fire Chief Kevin Fleege, and Trustees Suresh Reddy and Melissa Martin, APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. April 25, 2024 Motion to approve the April 25, 2024 minutes made by Kaarina Lebrun, seconded by Nomana Akhtar, all in favor, no one opposed. Minutes approved. PUBLIC COMMENTS There are no public comments. ACTIVE BUSINESS B. Pancake Breakfast Takeaways Chair Lebrun started by thanking the Fire Department and asked Chief Fleege for his comments regarding the Pancake Breakfast, he said that it was well attended, crediting the good weather and social media posts. He mentioned the need for a contingent plan in case of bad weather and the possibility of being prepared with indoor activities. Kaarina stated that there were around 200 sign-ins but believed that there were more attendees than that. The logistics of moving the event inside and shifting the hours were discussed. Discussion ensued regarding the food issues. Having signups or groups for the activities, using a PA system for announcements, incorporating a Library component, pursuing sponsorships, or promotional booths, having a “jaws of life” demonstration, and the date of May 18th 2025 were all discussed. The volunteer QR code did not get a good response. Arranging for the fire department to make the pancakes next year and activities for older kids are talked about. MINUTES OF THE MAY 23, 2024 MEETING OF THE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK APPROVED AS WRITTEN ON JUNE 13, 2024 C. Events Update SCD Segura shared the events being held at the Bath & Tennis Club, emphasizing the movie nights, which will be open to all Oak Brook residents and not just B&T members. Movie night logistics and volunteer opportunities are discussed. VM Summers asked if there is a fall event planned. Kaarina Lebrun spoke about National Night Out, where committee members will be volunteering, and the committee’s desire to have a “Play Date” for families before it. After a lengthy discussion weighing the pros and cons, it is decided not to hold the Play Date before NNO. Trustee Martin suggested doing a senior- focused event, maybe music and martinis at the Golf Club on the patio. Chair Lebrun shared that the committee is involved in the Celebration of International Cultures being held on September 22nd. Conversation shifted to the CEC involvement in the Taste of Oak Brook, it was decided that the committee would have representation at the Village tent. The committee circled back to the Play Dates, it was decided to move them up and Jessica would plan and organize them. Giuseppe shared his progress with the New Resident Packet, he explained the new content that will be included, and the updates being made; he sent a rough draft to Vince Bufalino who approved it. He then showed the newly designed logo to the committee and asked for feedback. The committee asked for “Oak Brook” to be added to the logo. TOB swag is discussed.
