Minutes - 05/21/2024 - Sports Core Advisory Committee Sports Core Advisory Committee Meeting May 21, 2024 6:00pm The May 21, 2024 Sports Core Advisory Committee Meeting held in the Upper-Level Conference Room of Village Hall, was called to order by Chairman John Anos at 6:00 pm PRESENT: In Person - John Anos, Jim DePhillips, Christy Dolan, Frank Scarpiniti, and Michael Stevens ABSENT: Mike Jerich, Kathy Miller, and Lara Barber IN ATTENDANCE: Assistant Village Manager, Joe Mitchell; Executive Assistant, Connie Reid; Sports Core Director, Art Segura; Village President Larry Herman; Trustees Mike Manzo and Melissa Martin; Premier Athletic Management, Dave DiTamaso; Head Golf Pro, Rob Michalak Approval of Minutes a. April 30, 2024 Motion to approve the April 30, 2024, meeting minutes made by Jim DePhillips, seconded by Frank Scarpiniti. All in favor, no one opposes. Minutes approved. Public Comments No Public Comments Chairman Anos began to go through the agenda but AVM Mitchell stopped him and asked if Dave DiTamaso could speak regarding the soccer fields. Mr. DiTamasso briefly touched upon the strength of the relationships with staff, Christ Church, PAM, Sean Creed, Chic Chef and how well things are going. Mr. DiTamaso stated that he has moved some of the Club’s soccer camps and tournaments to the Sports Core, driving up hotel stays and restaurant usage. He went on to say that he is thrilled to be able to bring a Tennis Camp for around 32 kids to Jim Lezatte, he is optimistic that the camp will sell out. Christy Dolan asked for more information regarding the logistics and how the money is handled for the tennis camp, which Dave provided. He then went through the various teams he has coming in and the new platforms Empire is now a part of. Conversation ensued regarding parking and coordination of events. Dave DiTamaso left the meeting and AVM Mitchell continued the meeting by announcing the Village President’s Golf Member Dinner and presentation which was being held the next evening. AVM Mitchell began his presentation with an update on the parking lot, he stated that it should be done by the end of the week. Bath & Tennis Club Drive should be completed by June 30th. The lowest bidder will begin work on the fence, and install it on the right side with a row of trees or hedges and an outward swinging gate. AVM Mitchell quickly goes through the other enhancements being brought to the B&T including cornhole. He shared that the new ball machine MINUTES OF THE MAY 21, 2024, MEETING OF THE SPORTS CORE ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK HELD IN THE UPPER-LEVEL CONFERENCE ROOM OF VILLAGE HALL APPROVED AS WRITTEN ON JULY 30, 2024 will be installed at the Golf driving range the week of the 28th, and the shelter will eventually be replaced. He moved on to talk about the two recent thefts at the golf course, one being committed by a ranger employed for 6 years, he brazenly stole two putters and is waiting for a court date, the second theft was a driver taken by a customer who has now been charged with a felony. Conversation shifted to the Trackman System, Joe Mitchell shared that a couple of the Sports Core Committee Members will be going to Prairie Bluff to try out the system. The next subject was the B&T roof, he stated that there are $500,000 in repairs that need to be done. He said that Premier Athletic Management is paying $100,000 in field rental and $70,000 for maintenance and their contract goes through 2026. He then presented the Poolside Café menu, stating that Fig Boz is not servicing the Café, Chic Chef will be doing it. B&T memberships are up from last year, including Resident memberships. He then asked for help with the strategic plan, he ran through a list of wants and needs for the Golf Club including, landscaping, carpeting, parking lot expansion and renovation, cart path overlay, driving range mats and paths, renovation of the 5th tee, including laser leveling and resodding, XGD drainage installation for chronic wet areas, starter shed on 1st tee. One of the bigger projects would be a separate facility for, golf cart storage, golf outings, and dining that would be built to the west of the Clubhouse. The committee discussed parking expansion and timelines. AVM Mitchell spoke about the further need for security and the planned security system that would be a mat on the floor instead of the stanchions at the door, which would be less intrusive. SCD Segura touched upon GolfNow reports and shared that golf rounds and revenues are up this year compared to last year. Conversation ensued regarding rate increases, cart fees and pace of play and how to rectify that problem. They will try blocking tee times to see if that alleviates any of the issues. AVM Mitchell shifted his presentation to the planned Bath & Tennis Club events for the season. He asked each committee member to email him their ideas and opinions about the strategic plan, so that he can move forward with his plans. The committee discussed, ideas for easier food ordering on the golf course, food service at the pool, resident rates at the golf course, and various other topics. President Herman announced a new program that would require residents to register for a resident card in order to receive resident rates and would allow the holder to book a tee time 8 days in advance, members will book 9 days in advance, and the general public 7 days.
