Estate Planning Explained Wednesday, September 4 @ 7 pm Join Dr. Jim Flanagan from Bentron Financial Group, Inc. as he explains the essentials of estate planning. This program will cover the estate planning process from beginning to end. Oak Brook Historical Society: An Intimate Look at Potawatomi Culture presented by Gina Roxas Sunday, September 8 @ 2 pm Gina Roxas, Executive Director of the Trickster Cultural Center and an enrolled member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, will share her unique perspective on the Potawatomi way of life, from ancient traditions to modern adaptations. The presentation will delve into the deep connection between the Potawatomi people and the natural world. Cleopatra: The Last Pharoah of Egypt Sunday, September 15 @ 1:30 pm Cleopatra herself will come from the pages of history to visit with the audi- ence. She will share her astounding story, audacious spirit, and astonishing guile in this educational, entertaining, and engaging presentation. Medicare Seminar: What You Need to Know about the 2025 Annual Enrollment Period Wednesday, September 18 @ 6pm Patrick Dulleck from First Choice Insurance Agency will cover everything you need to know about the 2025 Annual Enrollment Period and how it applies to you. Classical Music Concert Saturday, September 21 @ 2 pm Listen to noted pianist Dr. Myung Hee Chung play through various classical pieces including Chopin’s Nocturne in B Major, Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in G Major, and Mozart’s Rondo in A Minor. Urdu Literature Event Wednesday, September 25 @ 7 pm Join Dr. Ghazala Siddiqui in celebrating the Urdu language. We invite all patrons to share an Urdu poem, a favored excerpt from a text, or something you have written. The allocated time will be 5 minutes for each presentation. Beacon Book Club: Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart Thursday, September 26 @ 10 am The Beacon Book Club will be reading “Shuggie Bain” by Douglas Stuart. It’s the story of a sweet and lonely boy in 1980s Scotland, who must shoulder more responsibility than any young boy should. Stuart won the Booker Prize for this unforgettable story. Urdu Language Storytime Monday, September 30 @ 4:30 pm Join Dr. Ghazala Siddiqui as she shares her love of the Urdu language! She will begin with a story in Urdu and follow up with an introduction to learning the language. Ages 4-10 Toddling 2s and 3s with Miss Theresa Tuesdays, September 10 and 24 @ 10:30 am Join Miss Theresa as she reads books, sings songs, dances, and more! We will make a craft related to the theme of the day. A caregiver must stay with each child during this program. Registration is required for each child. Ages 2-3 Baby Storytime with Miss Irene Wednesdays, September 4 and 18 @ 10:30 am We’ll share stories and songs perfect for little ones. Registration for each baby is required. Limit 12 babies. Ages 6 –18 months with a caregiver for each baby. Bimonthly and Monthly Programs Registration required Crafternoons with Miss Brigitte Thursdays, September 12 and 26 @ 4:45 pm Join Miss Brigitte’s arts and crafts club! Every week we will do a new craft based on an artist or fall theme! There is a strict age requirement as some crafts require advanced fine motor skills. Some projects will take 2 sessions to complete. Dress for mess! Ages 8-12 Lego Free-Build with Miss Dominique **NEW DAY** Thursdays, September 5 and 19 @ 4:30 pm Join us for a Lego free-build and let your imagination run wild! Finished projects will be displayed in the display case until the next session! Legos are provided. All Ages Youth Pickup Craft Friday, September 20 Lion Leaves Stop by and pick up a fun craft to make at home! Supplies limited on a first come, first served basis. Special Programs Registration required Istvan and His Imaginary Band Saturday, September 14 @ 1pm Does your child love to move and groove? Come celebrate all things fall with Istvan and His Imaginary Band! Perfect for the whole family! Family Movie Matinee Saturday, September 28 @ 1pm Watch the 90s classic movie Space Jam starring Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny! A parent or caregiver must stay with children for this program. This is not a drop off event. Bring a pillow or blanket to get cozy! Teen Volunteer Program The Library offers volunteer opportunities to students entering 8th through 12th grades. Volunteer duties include assisting library staff with patron hold requests, sorting and shelving materials, and helping librarians with in-person children’s programming like story times and other special projects. Applications for the 2024 fall volunteer session are available online and in the library. Each applicant must complete an application and a short alphabetization quiz to participate.
