Oak Brook Historical Society Presents: Oak Brook’s Legacy Lives On: An Afternoon with Reute Butler Sunday, October 6 @ 2 pm Join us for a captivating afternoon with Reute Butler, granddaughter of Oak Brook’s visionary founder, Paul Butler. This event will feature a presentation by Reute Butler, followed by a Q&A session. Ms. Butler will be available to sign copies of the memoir, with all proceeds benefiting Friends of Conservation, an organization deeply connected to the Butler family's values. I’m Turning 65...Now What? Monday, October 14 @ 7pm The Medicare Ladies will be presenting changes to Medicare in 2025 including how and when to sign up, as well as the basics of Medicare A, B, C and D, and Open Enrollment Options. Terri Murphy - Delicious Desserts Wednesday, October 16 @ 7 pm Join local artist and instructor Terri Murphy as we take a look at the food art of oil painter Wayne Thiebaud and render a sweet treat in oil pastels. Beacon Book Club Thursday, October 24 @ 10 am This month the Beacon Book Club will be reading “We are the Light” by Matthew Quick, a humorous and empathetic story about healing and community. Whether you loved it or hated it, we want to know what you think! Urdu Literature Event Wednesday, October 30 @ 7 pm Join Dr. Ghazala Siddiqui in celebrating the Urdu language. We invite all patrons to share an Urdu poem, a favored excerpt from a text, or something you have written. There is a $5 admission fee until 11 am on Thursday, free for Friends members. Only cash and checks accepted for payment. All sale proceeds benefit the Library. Evergreen Concert Sunday, October 20 @ 3 pm Registration NOT required The Neverly Brothers will rock the library with their guided musical tour of the birth, near death, and resurrection of rock ‘n’ roll - from 1955 to 1965. Their energetic stage show consists of show-stopping renditions of early hits by Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and more! Baby Storytime with Miss Irene Wednesdays, October 2 and 16 @ 10:30 am We’ll share stories and songs perfect for little ones. Registration for each baby is required. Ages 6-18 months with a caregiver for each baby. Toddling 2s and 3s with Miss Theresa Tuesdays, October 15 and 29 @ 10:30 am Join Miss Theresa as she reads books, sings songs, dances, and more! We will make a craft related to the theme of the day. A caregiver must stay with each child during this program. Ages 2-3 Urdu Language Storytime Monday, October 28 @ 4:30 pm Join Dr. Ghazala Siddiqui as she shares her love of the Urdu language! She will begin with a story in Urdu and follow up with an introduction to learning the language. Ages 4-10 Bimonthly & Monthly Programs Registration required Lego Free-Build with Miss Dominique Thursdays, October 3 & 17 @ 4:30 pm Join us for a Lego free-build and let your imagination run wild! Finished projects will be displayed in the display case until the next session! Legos are provided. All Ages Crafternoons with Miss Brigitte Thursdays, October 10 and 24 @ 4:45 pm Join Miss Brigitte’s arts and crafts club! Every week we will do a new craft based on an artist or fall theme! Some projects will take 2 sessions to complete. Dress for mess! Ages 8-12 Youth Pickup Craft Friday, October 18: Black Cat Stop by and pick up a fun craft to make at home! Supplies limited on a first come, first served basis. Special Programs Registration required October Scavenger Hunt Every Day In October Find the hidden boomboxes around the youth area to spell out the hidden message! Once you do, bring your completed sheet to the youth desk to receive a prize! Family Movie Matinee: Halloweentown Saturday, October 26 @ 1pm Watch this Disney Halloween Classic with the whole family! A parent or caregiver must stay with children for this program. This is not a drop-off event. Bring a pillow or blanket to get cozy!
