FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oak Brook Officers Apprehend Burglary Suspect
On Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at approximately 2:35 PM, Oak Brook Police were alerted by
license plate reader technology to a vehicle wanted in connection with burglary and retail theft. The
vehicle was detected entering Oakbrook Center Mall, prompting officers to take swift action to ensure
public safety.
Oak Brook Officers located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver, however, fled
westbound on 22nd Street, leading to a collision with another motorist at the intersection of 22nd
Street and Route 83. The vehicle came to a stop at northbound Route 83 and 22nd Street, where the
driver refused to exit despite multiple commands to comply.
To ensure the safety of the public and officers, Oak Brook Police tactically disabled the vehicle’s rear
window using a less-lethal bean bag to gain visibility. The driver, who was the sole occupant, was then
taken into custody without further incident.
The driver requested medical attention and was transported to a local hospital with minor complaints of
pain resulting from the crash. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.
“This operation underscores the department’s commitment to protecting public safety while employing
strategic and measured responses to high-risk situations,” said Oak Brook Deputy Police Chief
Christopherson. “Our officers acted swiftly and professionally to bring the situation to a safe resolution.”
The investigation into the burglary and retail theft remains ongoing.
