FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oak Brook Police Apprend Motor Vehicle Thieves
Oak Brook, IL—On 01/31/2025 at approximately 2:55AM Oak Brook Police officers responded
to York Woods subdivision for a delayed suspicious incident report. While enroute to the area
officers located a dark colored Nissan Rogue with Indiana registration; and a Hyundai Sonata
with Illinois registration later to be determined stolen from the 100 block of Sheffield exiting
the subdivision.
Officers activated their emergency lights and pursued the vehicles onto eastbound 22nd St. into
Westchester. Both occupants of the Sonata exited the vehicle, and a foot pursuit ensued in the
area of Mayfair Ave. and Oxford St. At about 3:28AM with the assistance of the Westchester
Police Department, one offender later identified as Xavier E. Walker, and the second offender
identified as a M/B 17-year-old juvenile out of Chicago were taken into custody.
Information gathered by Officers indicated a connection to Burglary to Motor Vehicles that
occurred the night before in Hammond, IN.
During the investigation, Detectives learned that the offenders entered several vehicles and
mailboxes in Oak Brook with the intention of taking items of value.
The Oak Brook Police Department was notified by the Chicago Police Department of an incident
involving the Nissan Rogue in their jurisdiction shortly after the Oak Brook incident. The two
male occupants of the Nissan Rogue attempted an Armed Robbery of a Sanitation Service
employee in Chicago later that morning. The victim in that case is a CCL holder who shot both
offenders during the Armed Robbery attempt.
Walker has been charged with a Class 2 Felony – Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, a Class 4 Felony
– Possession of Burglary Tools, and charged with Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer.
A juvenile arrested in connection with this incident was charged with a Class 2 Felony-
Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and was transported to Kane County Juvenile Detention
Center.
Chief Strockis stated, "This incident illustrates the importance of calling 911 when you observe
anything out of the ordinary in your neighborhood which was done by an alert resident in this
case. I'd like to thank our officers for responding to the area so quickly, locating the vehicles
involved and making arrests. Criminals will be apprehended should they choose to flee from
the Oak Brook police as demonstrated time and again. We are 100 percent committed to
keeping this community safe through technology, collaboration and proactive policing".
