MINUTES OF THE JUNE 8, 2010 CLOSED MEETING OF THE
PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK
BROOK REVIEWED BY VILLAGE BOARD ON
1. CALL TO ORDER
The Closed Meeting of June 8, 2010 of the Village Board of Trustees was called to order by
President Craig in the Upper Level Conference Room of the Butler Government Center at 8:23
p.m.
2. ROLL CALL:
The Village Clerk Charlotte Pruss called the roll with the following persons
PRESENT: President John Craig, Trustee James Carson, Trustee Mark Moy, Trustee Moin
Saiyed, Trustee Gerald Wolin and Trustee Elaine Zannis
ABSENT: Trustee Stelios Aktipis
IN ATTENDANCE: Village Manager David Niemeyer, Village Attorney Mark Sterk,
Assistant Village Manager Blaine Wing and Police Chief Thomas Sheahan
3. TO CONSIDER THE APPOINTMENT, EMPLOYMENT, COMPENSATION, DISCIPLINE,
PERFORMANCE, OR DISMISSAL OF SPECIFIC EMPLOYEES OF THE PUBLIC BODY OR
LEGAL COUNSEL FOR THE PUBLIC BODY, INCLUDING HEARING TESTIMONY ON A
COMPLAINT LODGED AGAINST AN EMPLOYEE OF THE PUBLIC BODY OR AGAINST
LEGAL COUNSEL FOR THE PUBLIC BODY TO DETERMINE ITS VALIDITY (2C1).
A. Personnel
Police Chief Sheahan informed the Board regarding a pending discipline matter and a year-long
investigation involving Officer Stephen Peterson in regard to the Drew Peterson case. He
stated that investigations have been conducted by both the Kane County and Will County
State's Attorneys' offices. He stated that there will potentially be charges filed with the Illinois
State Police and the Will County State's Attorney, as well as the Oak Brook Board of Fire and
Police Commissioners (BFPC) and that Officer Peterson will be given notice of the internal
investigation upon his return from vacation. Chief Sheahan stated that after notice is given to
Officer Peterson and he is interrogated, then the decision will be made whether to file charges
with the BFPC and other agencies. Discussion ensued regarding possible litigation and press
involvement.
Village Attorney Mark Sterk informed the Board that they have not heard anything recently from
the attorney for the Sergeant's union and that the Village is not obligated to bargain with them
at this time.
4. ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Trustee Saiyed, seconded by Trustee Wolin, to adjourn the Closed Meeting and
Reconvene the Regular Board of Trustees Meeting. VOICE VOTE: Motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 8:41 p.m.
